Are there any Aspie's here with a special interest in Chess?
Chess replaced my old special interest in the game Tribal Wars 3 years ago. I'm particularly interested in knowing what chess openings Aspie's play and whether having Asperger's influenced your opening choice. It's taken me 3 years (only settled on my openings last month) to choose; 1.Nf3 when I play with White, and I play mainly g3 set-ups and transpose to English, Catalan or other mainline fianchetto systems when favourable, Najdorf against 1.e4 (loved it so much I use it in my alias) and King's Indian against everything else. My reasoning for these choices was they're all highly specialised openings that reward intensive research. Does anyone else have a similar philosophy to their chess opening choices?
I also love watching online chess broadcasts of big tournaments with the best players, especially when they play the openings I like. But I'm also just an all round chess enthusiast. I'm the current captain of the Nottingham Uni 1st team and last year was 2nd team captain and PR officer of the Society. I also enjoy volunteering in some local primary schools as part of the Chess in Schools and Communities project.
I'm very interested in chess and have played in many local tournaments. I also play a lot online (though mostly bullet games (1 min/game) - probably not the best thing for your chess though lol). I haven't really been studying openings that much for my level so in serious play I usually stick with openings without a lot of theory so I don't lose just because my opponent knows more about the opening than I do. Though this can sometimes lead to 'boring' games.
