Honestly, I just wish SEGA would stop releasing Sonic games which are so thematically different from each other, i.e. some are bright and colourful and set in cartoon-like, surreal environments, whereas others are set in grimy metropolitan settings featuring government bases, guns, etc. In my opinion, this just makes the series feel very fractured.
The upcoming home console Sonic game, Sonic Lost World falls into the "bright, colourful" category, and the fact that a 3D home console release falls into this category suggests that SEGA are heading in this direction with the franchise, so to release a sequel to Sonic '06 (which would fall into the "grimy metropolis" category) would be a big step backwards, in that it'd only serve to fracture the series even more.
