As someone who lives kind of out in the country and video games seem to be my only escape from boredom. I mostly play PC games since I don't have a console. But for the last few years I have seriously lost interest in spending long times of playing games. 90% of my time now has been spent using youtube or other websites and the other remaining 10% of the time I am on my computer I am actually gaming. I would like to know what is wrong with me here that I just don't have this interest in gaming anymore. How can I get back? What should I do? Anyone else have this/

My main alias is A%@$^gers%@^$#, and trust me, it's normal for real gamers to run out of a challange. If you're on steam, find a good group/clan, anything else, try and find a clan.
It gets boaring because it's so easy, so mix it up some with some tournaments, and if there is none, start one.

Could be depression or just that you are simply bored and need a change.

I often call it the Confuse-a-cat syndrome. Don't ask... monty python fans would definitely get and understand the reference. In the end the reference basically means IMO you just need something to change in your life/surroundings.

And if it's depression (That I suffer from badly), then the OP can find a group, and real challanges for games, I know this, as I'm a gamer, but then again after countless weeks, when the days seem like a minute is unbearable, since it's obvious the OP enjoys games and has lost total interest along with motivation to even attempt so, the best thing to do, is get into major events on the games, beat the s**t out of everyone, and win.

I have a few tips for professional gaming, breath slowly, very slowly,
think about what would happen to that person when you open fire, try to get most behind cover, then you'll stay calm for the event, after that, get f*****g creative.

I wish you the best luck mate, and if video games are your escape, don't listen to anyone that says their going to do more harm than good, and have a good game!

(It's only a good game if you enjoyed it too ya know....)

I suggest playing something a little older. For a console gamer, I'd recommend something from the 6th gen or before. I was losing interest in gaming myself, but I recently fixed my problem by playing some 6th gen games. Of course, things are different for pc gaming. I'm not an expert on pc gaming, which is pretty much its own separate thing. I do know that there aren't defined "gens" for pc games like there are for consoles, but obviously you could measure the progression of pc gaming over periods of time. I'd suggest trying something a little less modern. Maybe revisit an old favorite, or try something you haven't played before from a while back. Modern gaming may not necessarily be your problem though. Maybe you should try something from a different genre to find out if your current genre of choice isn't satisfying you as much anymore. I wasn't able to identify my problem till I stumbled across the solution, so maybe you should just try different things, and see what happens.

I know exactly what you're going through. I'm not sure if it's depression or what ( I'm not going to knock that theory though as it could be true). The same thing is happening to me. I used to live out in the country and besides farm work all I'd do after would be playing an online game or co-operative game with my sister. But now my sister has grown into a woman and doesn't play games with her big brother leaving me without a co-op partner.

I only have 1 friend in real life (Whom I recently stopped talking to, long story) and we used to also play a lot of games co-operatively and sometimes competitivly but he's now an administrator/co-founder of a clan/guild/whatever and decided he likes his group of friends more then me. So now I try to play these online games, surrounded by virtual people and not one of them will even give me the time of day to talk. I get bored easily when this happens, I have SO many games on my computer. My family actually gets frustrated because I'll be all excited to play a game but within the first day/week it'll get old because I'll still be alone or uninterested.

I've tried finding people on here to play with but it all goes the same way:

Them: "You have Asperger's too?"
Me: "Yup"
*We talk special interests and relative stuff*

Them: "Do you like Art/Cameras/Trains/Etc."
Me: "No, but what do you like about them?"
*Eventually drift apart because I am not in their special interest group and therefore not interesting*

Casual games are pretty good for curving this type of thing though. Something with a simple goal, simple scoring/levels. Something that you can get good at and have a tiny bit of accomplished feeling. Online flash games are an easy fix for this. Sandbox games like Minecraft are also good because you get to relive the acomplishment of building your own house/materials and basic circuitry (with redstone) + mods many times over.

Minecraft would be the only game in existance that I have never gotten tired of. Despite taking some breaks from it, I play it at least once every day. Best 20 dollars I ever spent :)

I am actually interested in playing some of the old Xcom games as well as the new one. I am now starting to get into the MMO Genere since to me it is like entering a Virtual world and talking to virtual avatars. Guild Wars 2 is another game I have interests in.
Does anyone know any good groups on Steam though?

I don't think I have any sort of depression. I think I am just lonely where I am at and feel disconected from my friends. Other than me taking an IT Class that last 4 hours and walking my dogs throughout the day it is basically 5 hours from my day and the rest is playing some video games and watching youtube videos.

I've been losing interest since I've been FAR too busy to even play games. College likes to suck all of my life out of me; anything that's left goes to my family and boyfriend.

There are certain games that I have lost genuine interest in. Like FPS games for example as I personally feel they have just become stale and I don't think the gameplay can/will improve until the next gen. I guess my general interest has some what declined as well, purely because I don't play them for hours on end like I used to when I was younger.

What kind of games do you usually play on the PC? Maybe it's time to switch up your gaming regimine.

I reccomend playing games you haven't played in a very, very, VERY long time. For me that would be Prince of Persia on the PS3...that movie ruined the game for me.

I used to be a hardcore gamer, but around 2005 or 2006, I lost my affinity for gaming pretty much overnight. Not really sure why; I guess you just fall out of love with certain passions over the years.

Only recently, in the past couple of weeks, have I slowly been getting back into gaming. I already had a PS3, but I was using it only for DVDs, Blu-rays, and downloaded music and videos. I picked up copies of Grand Theft Auto IV, Mortal Kombat, and Twisted Metal, since I was already familiar with their respective series. I'm enjoying it, but I don't think I'll be a full-blown hardcore gamer again anytime soon. I'm firmly in casual gamer mode; I can never seem to stay interested in and focused on any given game for more than an hour at a time.

I'm also considering picking up Hot Shots Golf, Tekken 6, Metal Gear Solid HD Collection, and Metal Gear Solid 4. (The last Metal Gear game I played through was Metal Gear Solid 2.) I've been watching video reviews of newer games that aren't part of a series I was already familiar with, but nothing looks too interesting to me, and I have no interest at all in the various shooters that seem so popular at the moment.

couple of months ago, I started to stop playing games a lot because I lost interest in the ones I have. But then I got Black Ops 2 and, thanks to it being surprisingly more fun than I thought, It got me back in. Still skip a day ofplaying every now and then, but I stll play it a lot more now. getting AC3 and Hitman Absolution for Christmas too. I think you should buy some new games, and get yourself updated a little. Worked for me. I would suggest Halo 4, Black Ops 2, AC3 or Dishonored. they're all pretty cool.

This is me to a T. I do sometimes go through phases where I'll play a certain game almost daily for a few weeks before becoming totally disinterested again. The thing that kills me is that I haven't replaced it with another interest. I feel totally lost without an obsession but nothing is sticking anymore. =/ I have some health issues now, and maybe they are effecting me in unexpected ways...but it's certainly not depression. I feel so "NT"...it's awful! lol

Same here in a way.

But not because of losing interest in games but rather the quality of the games made of late has dropped horrendously. Long gone are the days of games crafted with innovation and with a drive to stand out among the rest. Sadly, today games are nothing but pumped up graphics slapped upon aged and decrepit game concepts. WoW started it all and the cash cow success it proved is now copied and turned into micro transaction scam scheme games where there is zero innovation and zero game craft... and the game itself is designed to have a short term lifespan.

I live in a pretty remote area, and I've lost interest as well. I do the exact things you do now.. YouTube and other websites. I honestly believe it's the downfall of good entertainment, and good things come to an end sadly.. I wish that the simpler games like Galaga and such could have been reinvented... This "more detailed; less plot" crap is what made me go back to board games.
