I'm planning on getting one of them. For every person who tells me to go with an Xbox,, another says PlayStation is much better?? So I'm at a stalemate in this. What is really better? And why, if you'd like to elaborate.

Well, it depends on what you want from a console.

Personally, I wish that I went with the PS3 instead of the 360 I own, due to the fact that the PS3 has many more JRPGs and a much better controller (not to mention the Blu-Ray player).

The 360 is a better console when it comes to shmups, though.

This really all comes down to personal taste.

I used to have an Xbox, but I decided to trade it in and get a Ps3 instead about 9 months ago. I love it. The console exclusives are better and more varied, and the online gaming is free. The only gripe I have with the system is the controllers. They feel entirely too small in my hands, the control sticks are too sensitive, they cant use battery packs, and they seem a bit less than reliable. Other than that, I love the system. Definitely PS3 over Xbox

PS3 has more good exclusive games. It seems like most of the really good Xbox360 games are multi-platform.

The xbox console has more variety in games and the developers can make games more easily for it where the ps3 is title exclusive and the developers make changes to curtain games to suite the ps3.

If your talking about what would be better in the long run i would buy a ps4 just for the hardware it has.

I have both consoles and I mostly use the 360. They both have good exclusive games, but I like more games on the 360 than the PS3.

If you're looking for online play, 360 is the king. However if like me you prefer single player experiences, PS3 is better. It should also be noted that 360 online play cost $60 a year (I believe, might only be $50), while PS3 is free. If you get PlayStation Plus, which cost $50 a year, free downloadable games and discounted games are available with updates every week. The night I bought PS+ I downloaded $70 worth in free games, so I made my money back instantly. As other have said, PS3 also has the bluray player. Finally, the only notable 360 exclusives that jump to mind are Gears of War, Halo, and Forza (also Fable, but I think most gamers agree those went downhill). I would have said Mass Effect a couple months ago, but now the whole trilogy can be downloaded over PSN so that's a big blow to 360 exclusives. Meanwhile PS3 has Uncharted, Infamous, Resistance, Kill Zone, Metal Gear 4. Ratchet and Clank,--it doesn't get brought up that much but one of my fav PS3 games is Heavy Rain. This isn't to mention all the classics from PS1 and PS2 you can download. The only major advantage 360 has is a massive online community for shooters, and the online gameplay tends to run a bit more smoothly. Also, most people prefer their controller, but it's easy to adapt.

In short, if you're only really interested in the online shooter experience (which, let's face it, is what this console generation will be remembered for), you should probably go with 360. If your interests are more diverse, PS3 will serve you best.

Same thing here, only the other way around. The only reason I use my PS3 more is simply because I have more games for it.

I also have PlayStation Plus, so a lot of my downloaded games were free. I probably have about $250 worth of games downloaded onto my PS3.

I own both and rarely use either as the majority of my gaming is done on PC.

If it wasn't for Halo there would be no real reason to own a 360

on the other hand there are dozens of great exclusive games that can only be found on PS3

PC gaming is great but then you're missing out on Uncharted series, Infamous series, God of War series, Heavy Rain etc......

If you're on a budget PS3 would have been the best bang for your buck this gen, if you have money to spare buy a gaming PC to go along with it. And if you really like Halo and Gears and can't live without them then buy a Xbox 360 because that's all the xbox really has to offer. Well, that and nickle and diming folks for online play which is free on every other console and PC

Ultimately it depends on what games you want to play. I think the PS3 was the best console for me to pick up, since it has many excellent exclusives such as Demon's Souls, Valkyria Chronicles, Heavy Rain, MGS4, and the Infamous and Uncharted series. Many of the best games on Xbox 360 are multiplatform and since I own a gaming PC, there's really very little to entice me to buy what would amount to a Halo machine. Other factors in favour of the PS3 are free online play (Xbox Live is a huge scam IMO) and the ability to use it as a BluRay player or media streamer, which will continue to make it useful even when it stops being used as a games machine.

If the console is going to be your sole gaming platform however, it does make the Xbox 360 more appealing. Multiplatform games tend to have the Xbox 360 as lead platform, leading to its version as being superior technically to the PS3 version. Also, the biggest bottleneck in performance in multiplatform games tend to be the memory limitations of the PS3, leading to major performance issues in memory intensive games such as Fallout 3 or Skyrim.

Halo 3 is reason why I keep kicking myself for not owning a 360.

I never figured out what Cortanna talked with the gravemind over.

All these years later.

and I never found out.

... :(

Really depends on your choice.

I agree when it comes to exclusive games, PS3 is better, though X360 has some pretty good ones as well (Halo, Forza, Gears of War, etc). I wished they made The Show for the 360. Online gaming is free for PS3, but I always preferred Xbox Live.

Graphically speaking though, most games aren't very different.

I'm sorry, but I have no use for a 360. I prefer single player gaming. I don't hate fps, but I feel like I've played them all a long time ago, and very much prefer the old school of Doom and Golden Eye. While I don't think Halo's a bad series, it's just another fps series to me, and it effectively tops my list of most overrated games of all time, even beating out CoD, due to the amount of advertising it gets, and the fact that it's worshipped beyond belief. I enjoy the occasional fps like the Bioshock games that actually do something different, but otherwise, I don't care for the genre.

I stopped playing racing games not long into the 6th gen, also because I felt like I played them all, so I have no use for Forza. The Fable series used to be the only series I considered owning an xbox of any kind for, but that ship has sailed. I have zero respect for a company that sinks more into advertising than actual game development, and the fact that MS sits on any of its studios that produce anything outside of their big name titles doesn't sit well with me. Truth be told, I probably would like the selection of downloadable titles on the system, but I can't even keep up with what's released on psn in NA on the ps3, let alone if I factor in the vita(the psp's pretty much dead at this point), and content from both EU and Japan.

On the other hand, as someone who likes variety in games, I've been more than happy with the ps3's lineup of exclusives. I play the occasional multiplat, but most of those pander to the masses, so I only invest in the occasional, really good one. My hand pretty much formed around the Dualshock series of controllers since the start of the 5th gen. I have no issue with the 360 controller, but I think it's also beyond overrated. I've never had an issue with Dualshock controllers, and don't recall anyone else having any either, until this gen. Obviously it's people who changed, not the controller. I also enjoy Japanese games, and enjoy browsing the Japanese and UK ps stores, which is something xbl can't do, and I refuse to pay for a service that should be free anyways.

I will probably dislike the next xbox even more if the always online rumors prove to be true. Truth be told, I've never liked the effect the xbox brand has had on the industry, but I'm even more weary of this always online thing. If the next xbox has that stupid design flaw, and it sells well, then it could become the standard for the industry, so I hope it's not true(not that I was planning on getting the next xbox anyways).

Well, you haven't talked to everyone. I have always hated the Playstation controllers and Sony's unwillingness to improve the shape and feel of them. Its the short stumpy handles at an odd angle, and then they tacked on some thumbsticks in response to the N64, but they should have switched the position of the d-pad and left thumbstick on the transition to the PS2 when 3D gaming was clearly here to stay. They are functional, but they aren't good. At least Microsoft successfully has improved their controllers between the original Xbox controller getting replaced with the Controller S and further refined with the 360 pad. Nintendo on the other hand at least experiments with different things, sometimes it works(The thumbstick on the N64 was a gamble, hence the backup d-pad on the left side of the controller), sometimes it doesn't(The button placement on the Gamecube controller wasn't the best for certain games, especially fighting games), but at least they are willing to try. Can't say the same for Sony.

Well, as I said, I've never had a problem with Dualshock controllers(I've been using them for 17 years without a problem). With all due respect, the fact that Sony has stuck with their controller for so long is a positive for me. For one thing, I know what their controller's going to be like for any new system they come up with, and I won't have to adjust to it. They make minor changes, like the L2 and R2 buttons this gen, and I think the latest Dualshock is going to be a bit bigger to appease the whiners, but for the most part, it's the same.

Another reason I like it, is for authenticity for retro titles. When I play a retro game on any system, I hope to get as close to a completely authentic experience as possible, right down to the controller. Sure, the only way to truly get 100% authenticity is to play a game on the system it was originally released on, but, for PS1 and PS2 classics on psn, I get as close to a 100% authentic experience as possible. Sure, I don't actually swap discs, or have a real memory card, or really have an actual game case, and the Dualshock 3's L2 and R2 buttons are different, and there's a ps button in the middle of the controller. However, due to a combination of top notch emulation and an almost completely identical controller, I still feel like I'm playing an actual PS1 game for the most part.

Ninty's vc is a different story. I love the Classic Controller, and I love the Pro even more(for obvious reasons), but neither is a NES, SNES, N64 or GameCube controller. Not even close. I considered getting a GameCube controller for the RE ports, but I would only ever use it for those games, and I think that controller is terrible. I've had to settle for a less than authentic experience every time. Even though the Classic Controller Pro is really comfortable for a Dualshock fan like myself, OoT just doesn't feel right on it at times. There are points where it is obvious that the game was designed for a completely different control layout.

Honestly, it annoys me that Ninty has never stuck with the same controller on their consoles. If they did, we would be able to get a more authentic feel from vc games. Obviously games ported from other consoles like Sega systems won't feel truly authentic on any system, but there's no excuse for games released on a company's first party systems not to feel authentic either. At least Ninty has stuck with the same controls for their handhelds. The Gameboy series all had the same controls, except the Gameboy Advance, which just added L and R buttons. Ninty has kept the same layout among their DS series of handhelds too, and have occasionally added stuff like an analog stick or extra cameras, but haven't changed the control layout at all. I wish that was how they handled their console controllers.
