Does anybody have any views regarding the up-and-coming Game Stick ?

I find the concept.... confusing.
In theory it sounds like it might be an okay idea... but I suspect that in practice it will rapidly become a crashing, honking failure.

And, I'm also damned if I would ever pay £80 for something which is going to be sold for only $79 in the USA (approx. £51).

Even a small child could tell that according to present day exchange rates, they're shamelessly fleecing anybody who actually buys that thing in the UK.
Why do so many electronics companies think that kind of thing is acceptable ?
:?

Not sure about the game.

Ebay however does make conversions so just find someone in the US selling it for 80$ with a reasonable shipping price and you are good to go

Well the Ouya didn't do so well, what makes you think this has more promise?

I have no idea what a Game Stick is, but it sounds awful.

It's a tiny games console (the size of a typical wireless dongle) that will run a selection of Android games.

.. which is all very well, except that with the addition of system-specific controller (which seems to be a lot like a Master System or SNES controller in design) it won't be nearly as portable....

I can't imagine it will be around for very long.

Especially not after this comes out: http://shield.nvidia.com

The Game Stick is aimed at people who are less inclined to spend that much on a gaming console (Gamestick = $80 on launch, compared to fancy Nvidia Shield = $299) , or so the developers reckon. I doubt that it will make much of a splash, though.

Yeah, I don't know if $300 is the retail price, or the "get it before everyone else" price, or what...but I have an idea that it will be able to play more than just casual cell phone games.

The Shield will fail, like a lot of handheld consoles that are not from Nintendo, even though more powerfull that what offer Nintendo. They do the same errors as many, making a costly device that is bulky and not very portable.

Yeah, I don't know how well the Shield will do either, but I'm sure it will do better than GameStick.

Here in the UK I buy a lot of stuff from abroad, my opinion is there is some sort of conspiracy against encouraging people to buy things from America.

I have bought 3 Guitars from Asia, one of them being a new Gibson Les Paul so you are talking about a lot of money, Ive never once been charged anything by UK customs.

Yet anything I buy from America, even CDs, I always get some sort of custom charge, even if its just £8 handling fee when they find the item is below the threshold price for taxation.

I try and avoid anything from the States now because it works out too expensive, a shame since they have good stuff, especially in the automotive sector.

Maybe, but again - it's obviously a lot more expensive ; both to manufacture, and to buy.

If they were selling the Nvisdia shield for $80 on launch (which is the Gamestick launch price for random consumers. It's cheaper for the Kickstarter backers though), then the company would immediately find themselves struggling to meet their production costs.

So, it's not an equal comparison by a long way.
