I can just picture if Nintendo went the same way as Sega...years down the line, we'll have bargain bins full of "Nintendo's Greatest Hits" =|

I'm looking forward to the October 22nd Apple event since it should unveil the new ios7 & 64 bit iPads and Mavericks OSX. They could show off the Logitech ios gamepads as well.

Certainly puts Apple one step closer to competing with Nintendo, but they still have nothing on big N's first and second party titles.

Nintendo's biggest problem right now though is that they have a VERY hard time attracting gamers that are not into those extremely specific franchises. So while it's a strength of theirs.... it's also a major weakness. Particularly since they're infamous for NEVER DOING ANYTHING ABOUT IT. They're just as legendarily bad at third party relations as they ever were. I used to have both a Gamecube and a Wii myself, and both of them were damn near useless due to this. The Wii existed to play Brawl; the GCN existed to play Phantasy Star Online. They had literally no other purpose for me whatsoever. Bloody worthless devices, really. Dumped them some time ago.

This'll just get worse for Nintendo as more and more people start to realize that not every game on iOS (or android) is just "casual" stuff like Angry Birds. Hell, of the 150+ games on my iPad, only 10 of them are of the "casual" sort. The rest are exactly the sorts of things that I'd have on PC or console (or handheld if I still cared about handhelds), which generally in my case means alot of the really "hardcore" sort of games like danmaku shmups or roguelikes. That unfortunate generalization about "everything being casual on there!" still exists though, and the App Store's stupidity doesnt help.

As for Nintendo dying.... no, it wont happen yet; they still have too much money and resources. Too bad... I personally would rather get a kick outta watching them go down, but that's just me.

As for the topic here, I dont really get it.... there have already been controllers of sorts for these things for awhile. iCade devices of various sorts, for instance. I've got like 2 of them myself sitting behind me, had them for awhile now.....

Is this something that's somehow completely different from those?

What would be in any way thrilling or entertaining about watching a company responsible for some of the greatest gaming franchises in history dying away? :?

That's one of the main reasons I still buy Nintendo systems...if I want to play third party titles, I can get most of them for dirt cheap on the PC. If I want to play console exclusive titles, there's maybe one on the PS3 that interests me, and one or two on the 360.

Granted, there's only one or two on the WiiU right now that interest me, but I'm sure that will change within a year or so.

That can work for some people, sure, but keep in mind alot of Nintendo's targeted audience is console gamers; many of which can afford only ONE console, particularly with the prices always being so high. The Wii managed to bypass this because it managed to appeal to non-gamers, as opposed to trying to appeal to that one audience, but the Wii U does not have that benefit. And while Nintendo's games are often seen as high-quality, the simple fact is that they're very few, and very far between. The sheer volume of games on the other 2 consoles.... many of which are also considered to be high-quality... dramatically exceeds that of Nintendo's consoles. On those consoles, the consumer need not wait a year or two for something they want to appear.

Everything.

Let's just say I'm not exactly fond of them, and leave it at that.

Not that I'm exactly fond of the other two either, but whatever. As of this incoming new generation, I dont buy products from any of the 3 anymore, so that works out well enough.
