I downloaded Crysis(and 2 and Warhead) when it was on sale for 5.00 on Steam a couple weeks ago and it's such a b!tch when I can't play 1 or Warhead because I have the net out at the time...my parents don't let us use the internet til like 4-7pm and it's a big issue for me to play these games. i mean isn't steam enough DRM anyway?

Who would want to pirate an EA game?

It would be like shoplifting at Radio Shack.

EA's Origin thing is definitely terrible, that one I'll agree with. Very, very terrible.

As for Steam being bad DRM? No. Steam is harmless. I always have Steam start the very moment the PC enters Windows, which means that since it's always on, it wont give me any problems related to connections; I have yet to not be able to play a game on there simply because the modem goes into derp mode. As a rule, if you've already got Steam running when the connection borks out, it's not really going to care all that much and the game list should all work fine. Desura is like this as well.

Origin is heavy DRM, yeah, but Steam, well.... I'll say this, Im very glad it's there. A *good* service of this sort tends to be very easy to use and well thought out. Origin though will glitchbomb all over the place.

steam's awesome, it's just the extra thing they got for Crysis...always on internet to startup

Steam is supposed to have an offline mode, but I've never tried it myself.

No, no, I mean, online or offline (I use offline all the time), Crysis will not start without the internet connected on Steam...which is why I was asking they're just asking for it to be pirated.

Yep.

And THAT one is up to the publisher, not Valve. Im not sure but I think all of EA's games that are on Steam do this.

And then there's Ubisoft; I dunno about ALL of their games, but Anno 2070, when started, jumps out of Steam, and into Ubisoft's similar (yet dramatically smaller) service. Because, you know, gotta get them exposed to more Ubisoft games! Fortunately, Anno 2070 is way more than worth it. Simcity 5 turned out to be an EA-infected disaster, but I grabbed Anno 2070 at about the same time.... and it turned out to be an extremely similar type of game, except muuuuuuuch better than SC 5 turned out. Hell, I might like Anno more than the entire Simcity series. Ubisoft's service thing is quite harmless, but it IS pretty annoying that it makes you jump through BOTH, just because Ubisoft. That game though, yeah, worth it.

As for other games, well, MOST of the time, the only games that require a connection to even start are the games that need a connection regardless of Steam's presence (or are at least designed around being connected all the time during gameplay). Things like Path of Exile, for instance, or the TrackMania games. Even if they were without Steam, those games require a connection. And of course any MMO, but that one's obvious.

Ah.

Well, then, yes, I suppose they do want to encourage piracy =)

I can't stand Origin. They still haven't given me the Dragon Age content I paid for, whilst there useless customer staff informs me that it's my fault because I didn't install a patch before starting up the game...or something...
