I've recently happened to replay it... really forgetting what happened when I first played it more than a decade ago, as if I was suppressing the horrible memories of frustration, really... because, unlike most other games which don't seem to bother with anyone playing cracked/modded versions of them (what's easier than playing ISOs on a computer, anyway?) - the developers of Spyro 3 decided to really screw with the players... not just block the game entirely, like Microsoft seems to do with its products or such... no, just eggs randomly disappearing and other almost infantile glitches deliberately programmed into the game... with the persistent illusion of players that they can progress through the game (and I did complete two worlds even this time, just because it's not easy to confirm whether eggs will keep disappearing or not... Sheila's Alps being the most frustrating thing ever). More info: http://www.cracked.com/article_20482_5- ... es_p2.html

So, so frustrating that I actually really detest Insomniac for it... I remember always passing the first two games, but the third was never in the realm of possibility just because of its sadistic developers who *let* the player think they could pass it. Ugh.

Are you playing with an emulator, or on actual hardware? Also, do you have a legit copy of the game, or just an iso or bootlegged copy? I've heard that sometimes the copy protection on this game can be a pain even if everything is legit.

I kind of want to try that.

With an emulator currently, but played a physical (unoriginal) copy over a decade ago... the glitches escape no emulator or platform, though.

Isn't there a patched version floating around that fixes those bugs?

Well it was the first game with coding that protected it from hacking and copying. So I'm sure they thought it would be fun to mess with the players while they were at it.

According to the Cracked article, the pirates made a crack that fixed the game's issues two weeks after it launched. I wouldn't be surprised if this version could be found floating around various emulation sites (not gonna say which ;)).

:-) I think that's really funny.

Of course, if you've decided that putting up with that is worth saving yourself the expense of stumping up for a legitimate version of the game then hey... you only have yourself to blame if you find it frustrating.
(shrug)
There's nothing sadistic about the developers... it's not like they're forcing you to play the fake buggy version after all, and it's just stupid and a bit juvenile to detest the developers for encouraging people to play genuine versions of the game rather than ripping them off. Would you want to work for months full-time without getting paid ? No ! !?? Well then, why do you expect Insomniac to be keen on the idea ?

 LOL ! !!

I haven't played any Spyro games since the original Spyro the Dragon for the PlayStation. But it was a really fun and colourful game and really did a lot with the 3D technology of the time. I remember flying like in Super Mario 64 and it made me feel like I was really flying. That was a lot of fun.

Sadly, I never played any Spyro games since that. Perhaps I should. Would Spyro 3 be a good way to pick it back up?

There was a game on the DS which, if you played the pirated version, all the dialogue was replaced with wingdings. I think it was an RPG.

Honestly, I never noticed any problem with Earthbound / Mother 2 , even though I played it with ZSnes.... the rate of enemy encounters seemed to be alright, to me.
I did wonder about the sheer number of HP which the last boss had though, I never finished the game as they never seemed to end.
