I can't decide....

I really liked my Apple II/IIe(Still have both) because it had Berzap and Frogger.
and I really liked my Atari 2600 because of Choplifter and Freeway
and I really liked the NES for Bionic Commando and The Legend of Zelda
and I really liked the SNES for Star Fox and Final Fantasy III/VI
and I really liked the Sega Genesis for Shining Force and Pirates Gold
and I really liked my game gear for Major League Baseball and Sonic The Hedgehog
and I really liked my PS1 for Suikoden 1 & 2
and I really liked my dreamcast for Marvel vs Capcom 2, and Bust a Move 4

I really can't decide which retro console was my favorite....

All of them I guess.

Wait... The Apple II/IIe. I have a disc somewhere that has ten monochromatic porn pics from the early 80's. Yeah, the Apple II/IIe wins.

What didn't make the list:
Aquarius Basic(only one game ever made for it and it sucked)

My original Xbox with Coinops installed, because it can play games from every single platform listed above (and a couple of others not listed).
If I had to choose I'd probably go with the Playstation because it was such a huge gamble, as well as a big "f**k you we'll do it our own way" to Nintendo and it was the first console that made gaming cool for adults. Great advertising campaigns and plenty of incredible dance and techno soundtracks made it the coolest thing ever in the mid 90's.

Playstation all the way, because I was a Playstation kid. I was a Genesis kid too, but I got my ps1 when I was 8, and that's where most of my nostalgic gaming memories come from. I still have some good memories of playing my Genesis, but I played way more ps1 games than Genesis games, and I've owned every Playstation system since, whereas I never bought another Sega system. Actually, I still do own all my ps systems, except for my ps1, because I foolishly listened to my parents when I got my ps2. :( I still have my ps2 and also own a psp, in addition to my ps3, ps4 and vita.

I'll have to say the NES, because I had some good memories playing with it. Among the games I liked were the Super Mario Bros. trilogy, Duck Hunt, and Tetris (Nintendo-licensed version), and used my first cheats in some of these games.

Hard to rank them all, but:

3. generation: NES (and no one comes even close)
4. generation: SNES (although I have fond memories from the Sega Genesis as well)
5. generation: PS1 (but the N64 is a very close call)

SNES. Come on, you have Super Mario World, Super Mario All-Stars, Kirby Super Star, Kirby's Dream Course, Donkey Kong Country trilogy, Super Mario RPG, Final Fantasy 4 & 6 ( technically 5, but that wasn't brought west until it was ported to PSX ), Chrono Trigger, F-Zero, Super Mario Kart, Star Fox, Super Metroid, Zelda: A Link To the Past and the best game ever made ( IMO ) EarthBound. Not to mention tons of other classics...

That said, I also loved NES, Game Boy/GBC, PSX, Genesis and N64. If you count a couple gens ago, also PS2, PSP, GBA, GCN, Xbox and Dreamcast as well.

The Super Nintendo will always be my favorite retro gaming console because of the original Donkey Kong Country trilogy, Killer Instinct, Super Mario All Stars, Super Mario World, Super Punch Out, Street Fighter II, and a few hidden gems.

N64 will always be my favorite! I loved Wave Race, Doom, Goldeneye, Perfect Dark, Mario sports games and much much more!

It's just a great system and I am hoping to own one again!

^what he said! SNES for all the same reasons. Classic, polished games that are still re-playable over and over.
For me, NES and Game Boy tie for a close second, followed by PS/PS2

I regard the Sega Dreamcast as the last true retro system because its library of arcade ports and truly groundbreaking games is something we will never see again. Everything that made the 6th generation so popular is off the back of the Dreamcast.

The N64 set the standard for many things in modern gaming; analogue control, multi-function gamepads and games like Super Mario 64, Mario Kart 64, Goldeneye and Ocarina of Time are games that have defined the course of video gaming for many years to come. The N64 may not be the first thing that comes to mind when you think "retro", but it made a big mark on the video game industry and created a legacy that deserves to be remembered.

Happy 25th birthday to the Gameboy!

Ps1 would be by far my favorite, it had the most amazing games around that Nintendo couldn't even touch without GoldenEye. Not to mention it popularized two game genres (Stealth action and survival horror). I still have some downloaded on my PS3 and some in the original disc.

Going to have to say Game Boy because that's the one I spent the most time on. I used to curl up on the couch or on top of the monkey bars in the backyard to play.
