Rumored Buried E.T. Cartridges Found!

The landfill has been unearthed. It's no myth anymore. They found hundreds of E.T. videogame cartridges and even some manuals, cover art boxes, and an Atari Joystick.
Do you think we disturbed something by unearthing the very thing that nearly killed the videogame industry?
Was this a bad idea?
Would anyone want these cartridges?
Or was this some staged publicity stunt for Microsoft to promote TV programming on the Xbox One?

The reason the cartridges were buried in the first place was because the games were HORRIBLE. I played Atari as a kid, so I remember. Some people say E.T. was only bad because people didn't really know how to play it, but even then it was still awful and a painful reminder of how the 1980's weren't all smiley-faces and peace symbols. Or was that the 70's? Well, in Canada they were about the same.

I wonder what will become of all those cartridges now?

I liked that game as a child and even managed to finish it.

E.T. was just one of many pathetic efforts by Atari to market a game sloppily made to pop culture.

They couldn't even produce the equivalent of Apple's "HiRes" graphics on the screen and made sloppy efforts at Raiders of the Lost Ark and Pac Man.

I couldn't believe the LINE for Pac Man which looked nothing like Pac Man...but people bought it. You had to scroll the screen to see the whole gaming area for heaven's sake.

You had to find the 3 phone pieces and have ET phone home and have the spaceship come pick him up. While doing this you fell down a lot of holes and got chased by a scientist and a government guy. Elliot was involved too but I forget what he did to help you.

Ok first off it did not nearly kill the gaming industry, that would be like saying if the next call of duty flopped it would kill the industry, neither of which is likely to happen. And it was buried for a reason: it was THAT bad. They should have never even dug it up.

Myth.

They did not bury it because it was bad, they buried it because it was stored in the same warehouse as all the rest of their games, which outnumber ET carts by a huge amount.

But I guess their newspapers sounds more interesting with a headline like "FIVE MILLION COPIES OF THE WORST GAME EVER MADE FOUND BURIED IN THE DESERT".

As I understand it, the video games market nearly collapsed around 1983 because people were fed up with shoddy (and expensive?) Atari games and stopped buying them. ET was the most high profile but I think Pac Man didn't sell as expected either.

I had Atari Pac Man and, while it was cool to have a Pac Man game at home it was nothing like the arcade version. I was very disappointed with it at the time.

I think they could get some of those recovered ET cartridges, seal them in transparent resin and sell them on eBay as novelty paper weights or door stops. I might even buy one

This was a myth? I thought it was a fact.

I saw the gameplay video. Just... sheer lazyness.
