So, if you don't know what Dota is, it is a complicated MOBA. The learning curve is steep but once you get passed that, it is a very rewarding game. (The pros make millions of dollars if they win the international tournament.)

Anyway, it's a fun game and I encourage everyone to check it out of you enjoy a challenge and like very tough games.

And if anyone does play it, maybe we could talk about it here.

Btw I usually play a support rule. Dazzle ftw

I do! I have played about 800 matches and i like supporting and currently i am playing with a group of mild mannered people that have roughly 200-400 games played.

It's a lot of fun for the most part when your "teammates" don't blame everything on you and you are able to do nothing.

I've dabbled mildly in it but I tend to get bored of it kinda fast, particularly after playing other games in the genre. I'd started with Dota and then tried some others from there, and ended up just not going back all that much. Too many slow moments, when combat DOES happen it's over WAY too fast, laning is brain-meltingly dull, and.... last-hitting, my most loathed mechanic in the entire genre; the game is bloody obsessed with it. Frankly, if that last bit wasnt so prevalent, I might play it a bit more, but I hate that part THAT damn much. Note that it's not because of finding it hard or anything; my main genres that I play are fighting games (which I'm very, very good at) and bullet-hell shmups, two genres where you often need absolutely perfect timing in situations of extreme chaos in order to not get flattened. No, in this case, it's just because it's dull and annoying. I dont like it in the rest of the genre either for that matter, but most of them arent AS bad about it.

So yeah, it's like, it's an okay game, and I might play it every now and then, but I tend to just lose interest pretty fast.

I play Dota 2 as well. I don't play it often but if I have a chance to play it with friends I'm usually willing to hop on (though you should not expect me to join without being invited first or if I am in the middle of playing some other game). I can agree with all of the above points. It's an incredibly compelling and rewarding game because it truly feels like your each and every action contribute to winning or losing. League of Legends, it's main competitor, may be fun for a while but eventually you get used to the patterns that happen every single game. The variety of strategies in Dota 2 that you can do, even at low skill levels, blows League out of the water, although it comes at the cost of heroes and the game, in general, being much more difficult to learn. I also note that if you're new (or you just don't like dealing with ragers/shittalkers, period) you have got to use the mute button if you want to keep your sanity.

I pretty much play offlane and support when I play All Pick (I play way, way too much ability Draft when I'm not playing with friends) because I don't trust my mediocre skills with any other roles.

And, to Misery, I think it actually makes the game lot more engaging to play when something so simple as last-hitting takes real focus and skill. Dota actually feels like a game where every decision I make matters to whether my team wins or loses and that there's infinite possibilities for outplaying the opponents in any situation, whereas League is boring to me because there's way less gameplay variety, there are less tools to outplay the opponent with, and I feel as if my success in 85% of matches is due either to the enemy team being incredibly stupid or to me or one of my allies playing a champion that's OP and frustrating to play against.

Hmm, I've honestly found it to be the direct opposite. The timing aspect of last-hitting simply bores me... I dont find it challenging (for the afore-mentioned reasons, I'm *very* used to that sort of thing already), and as always, if I dont find something challenging, I'm probably bored of it. But the thing that's worst for me is that the last hitting almost feels like it's there because someone couldnt think of something else for players to do when laning against each other. There's... hardly any back-and-forth at all between one player and their lane opponent, because gods forbid you use a spell/skill more than once every thousand years or so (which is my OTHER big problem with the game; this to me makes the combat dull). And when the fact that almost all skills in the game are NOT skillshots (dont like auto-hitting skills/spells in this genre one bit).... yeah. I'm bored really fast. I like pretty much all of the other games more mostly because, even during laning, there's spells and bolts and whatever constantly being flung between opponents... stuff is happening, there's things to dodge, someone to aim at.

I will say though, League is NOT a good example of it done right either. Most people tend to point out Dota's good points by simply comparing it just to League; League is okay, but it's not where I'm gathering all of this from at this point. I rather got bored of that one myself... it was the second one I tried, but then I found others beyond that. And the others were better. League is... too stale. You know, nobody ever leaving lanes, and that sort of thing. The combat is good, but I want to have reason to, you know, interact with more parts of the map than just one (without being a jungler). Other games have that AND the good combat. Not to mention it had one of Dota's bigger issues as well: matches that take absolutely freaking forever... even when it's a very clear victory/loss.

Now, the BEST example of it all done right, to me, was Dawngate.... but the foul, shadowy mass of greed known as EA looked at it and went "Wait a minute... Dota was printing money in beta, and OUR game is in early beta... why isnt OURS printing even more money? CANCELLED!! !!". As if I needed more reason to despise them beyond Simcity and the existence of Origin. That though is a whole other (really long) rant.

In the end, I suppose it's a bit like the fighting-game comparison of Street Fighter to something like Guilty Gear. SF, like Dota, is just too slow moving for me, and I dont tolerate "slow" very well. Which I guess can sum up alot of my biggest complaints with the whole thing.

....also the support role in Dota, I cant stand it. Ends up being just about wards half the time... I often prefer to play support in these games (which actually consists of very little warding in the others), because dammitall, SOMEONE has to do it, and usually everyone else doesnt, so... yeah. Someone's gotta protect the carry from the fact that they just stuffed their head into a box of chainsaws. Ends up being me much of the time. Ugh. That, too, is a whole other rant, be it related to Dota or any of the others.

Dont get me wrong, Dota is still a good game, despite how bloody negative I sound. I *always* sound negative, so dont put too much stock into that aspect. I could ramble on about Minecraft, my favorite game, and sound like I hate it, when I very definitely dont.
