I'm not really much of a gamer these days, but I'm really interested in gamer culture. I've watched a bunch of fun and funny game review shows, but now I'm looking for something more. So, could anyone please give me some recommendations for educational and/or thought-provoking web shows about video games? (Blogs, podcasts, and such are okay, too.)

You might enjoy some of these, dated as they are:

His favorite game franchise(SOCOM) was run into the ground, or rather "updated and abandoned", so he embarked on a crusade of furious complaints to save it. He is annoying sometimes, and was unsuccessful, but history has proved him right.

There is a channel called "Ahoy" or "Xboxahoy" that uses a sort of documentary style about a subject in gaming such as graphics, particular guns or Easter Eggs. The host is great too having a very characteristic british accent.

I'm not sure if the OP will have any interest with this but I found an extremely interesting YouTube channel of in-depth reviews (which border on the edge of practically being case studies on game design) about various games, with a couple of series dedicated to well known franchises of Nintendo. The reviewer uploads fairly infrequently and you may disagree with him from time to time, but ultimately games are art and subjectivity always plays a part when you are critiquing art. I think the detail with which he examines the games far outweighs his weaknesses, though. Anyways, I would recommend you take a look at the channel: >link<

And, just for fun, I'll embed his Ocarina of Time review into my post:
