Ya know, that last question got me wondering: What HAS this company been up to in recent years? I knew them well for some of their older games, but havent heard a thing of them for a long while, so I went and looked this up.
I immediately regretted doing this. Ugh. How the mighty have fallen! They are Broderbund in name only now; the original company/studio is utterly dead. Like what often happens when EA eats a developer, except in this case they were bought out in 1998 by "The Learning Company", which is never a good sign.
There was so much good stuff that was published/developed by these guys way back when. My own personal favorite example being the NA version of Guardian Legend on the NES. Other notable games: Carmen Sandiego, Raid on Bungeling Bay, Choplifter, Lode Runner, Myst, Prince of Persia, Karateka (which I may have spelled wrong), Spelunker... the list just goes on and on, though the list is very definitely incomplete on the wiki page.
Way too many games on that list that I'm familiar with. They really were a very large publisher and they put out a ton of great stuff. And now.... educational software and "utilities". Oh, there's some games still there now, but they're all things like those "hidden object" games that like to appear on mobile or PC lately.
The old Broderbund is long gone. Depressing, really...
