I pre-ordered The Witcher 3 at EB for the key chain bc it looks cool, also for the compendium and map. I hope scrubs won't be at work on day 1 :(

Yeah, in all honesty, I never entirely trust those guys, really. Not so much in a "they'll do something bad and steal it" sort of way, but in a "they're often incompetent" sort of way. I worked there once, and have seen MANY different employees over the years, and.... ahh, you get alot of idiots working there. I've seen them do things like sell games BEFORE the moment of release; when FFX released a million years ago, that happened around here. They got the shipments of the game a couple of days or so before the release, and someone there just decided "well there's alot of customers here right now that want them, they'll get them anyway later, let's just do the sale now!" and.... yeah. You're really not supposed to do that...

I always prefer not to pre-order things with them, but it's not always really avoidable.

Currently I'm debating on wether or not to pre-order Splatoon from them, or if I should do a digital purchase rather than deal with them. I'm not sure yet.

Anyways I hope that at least the soundtrack disc, compendium and map will be in the box and not hidden in the darkness of the clerk's counter...

EB/Gamestop are better than Best Buy, Target, Walmart and TRU.

Best buy employees are notorious for selling all preorders as regular stock.
Target is known for not even filling the preorders.
Walmart is known for canceling and not telling you.
TRU is well not trust worthy in stocking anything anymore.

I wish the midnight hoard won't be too big; my father can only go get the copy the morning after midnight sale.

I tried to buy the deluxe edition of Morrowind from gamestop, at an excellent bargain, and they told me that they didn't really have the disc, and that the box was in the bin by some mistake. Right, sure, whatever. More like you didn't know it was there, and then decided to take it for yourself...

Actually they probably really DIDNT have the disc.

That situation is a common problem with them. Have you seen how they store those discs? And when you compare that with the method they use to inventory everything.... ugh. Yeah, things get randomly lost. Decent chance that someone else bought something else entirely, and went home to find a Morrowind disc where it shouldnt be.

Oh, my favorite part though was the thing with the shrink-wrapping. I dont know if they still do this, but they used to take certain totally new games (as in, the sort that'd obviously be still in plastic), open them, take the game out, so it could go in the "security drawer" and not get stolen, and then shrink-wrap the empty case back up. I remember this distinctly, my boss had me operating the wrapping machine in the back room much of the time.

You can probably guess at some of the hilarity that could result from THAT brilliant little idea.

Actually many stores not just EB/GS have been caught destroying discs and stuff in order to clear out stock that is very slow selling.

Oh, I didnt mean games that were slow to sell.

They pull all of these things with the games that will sell quite nicely, or are even hugely anticipated. I can understand stores getting wonky with bad stock that aint going anywhere. EB/Gamestop, though, gets wonky with *everything*. Both in a way that's easy for anyone to spot, and in internal ways that you'd have to work there for a time to see.

It's really just.... ugh. I just dont even go there anymore most of the time. It works out well enough though; 99% of my gaming-related purchases are on the PC anyway and what few arent are usually digital downloads. I can honestly say I dont exactly miss Gamestop much.

Actually they are better than Target and Best Buy in my experience.
Best Buy has notorious customer service and doesn't stock their stores on regular basis, yet their employees don't even know anything about the games they sell...
They are also more expensive for me due to the fact I rarely shop there anymore thus do not accumulate enough points.
They also don't sell lesser known titles or mid tier titles due to how little they sell compared to Call of Duty and the other AAA titles.

Oh don't bother preordering, they regularly sell off preorders to first come first serve and still charge your account.
Getting them to refund your money is quite hard.

Target is just down right crap now days, no guarantee they'll stock the game even if it is popular.
Target is also stopping in store sales of Amiibos, forcing you to buy them online... Amiibo customers probably don't buy anything else while they are in the store, to warrant in store stocking.

Both Target and Best Buy rarely match Gamestop trade in values, thus being much lower than Gamestop by far.
Both Target and Best Buy employees are also quite rude as well

My two Gamestops are really good at stocking and have good employees and prices (I get plenty of good coupons to get discounts).

Oh did I mention how Gamestop trade in value are at least twice as good as Target, Best Buy, and Walmart's?
Amazon regularly competes with them, but I don't trust sending my games and systems through the USPS (I wouldn't trust any shipper).

Though I buy most of my games and stuff at my local Meijer (midwest hypermarket chain), because I get enough reward certificates for buying groceries I can buy my games and stuff at discount!
Granted Meijer's doesn't stock everything..., so I normally use Gamestop for the rest.

I remember back when Xenosaga Episode 2 was coming out....my sister pre-ordered it, and the employees really were snaking the pre-order items ( in this case, it was a DVD of all the cutscenes from Xenosaga Episode 1 as a movie ). She was really upset....additionally, the employees at that particular Gamestop ( we had 2 at the time, 1 of which started out as EB Games ) treated me like crap every time I went in. My mother seriously called corporate on them, as well as contacting Namco themselves. My sister got the DVD....and those employees got their butts fired. Thankfully, especially since we only have the 1 Gamestop now, the employees who work there are nice. Heck, 1 even found me a Captain Falcon Amiibo!

Ah, yeah, I dont really like Best Buy or Target any more than you do. Bloody stupid places, really. Way too many problems. Dont like Walmart either.

The Meijer is pretty good though in many aspects, though the one nearest me never seems to be able to keep their stock full very well. Pretty much the only store I bother going to these days.

Cant really comment on the trade-in prices... I've no idea what they are these days. Back when I tended to have very little spending money I'd do trade-ins fairly frequently, but I've not done any since that changed.

The dumb part in my area though: There are NINE Gamestops. Nine of them. There's one spot where there's 2 shopping complexes, right, a Gamestop in one of them.... and then right across the street, visible from there, another Gamestop. I try not to think about that one too hard. It's like a computer trying to divide by zero.

Meijer's quality varies by store manager.

I suggest you sign up and use their mPerks rewards, you literally can get the reward certificates for buying X amount of Y category of groceries, X amount for total purchase this month is $375 for $10 rewards certificate. I think, X amount of healthcare and beauty, X amount for electronics (includes video game and accessories, though PSN/eShop/XBLA and other prepaid cards don't apply anymore) this month is $60 for electronic and get an $8 rewards certificate.

They regularly issue special coupons for weekends from time to time (I tend to get two per month) that are either 5%, 10% or 15%... Or it is $5, $10, or $15 off general merchandise.

If all goes right I should have between $5-$15 in rewards certificates when Splatoon comes out + whatever coupon they issue that weekend as well.

Buying Splatoon and the corresponding Amiibo pack, should ensure I get a good amount of rewards for next month.

Rewards certificates can be used for any merchandise not regulated by government, nor can it be used on ticket of sorts, prepaid cards, and prescriptions.

There is also a reward program for prescriptions, if you refill 5 prescriptions you get 1 credit, which can be used for a $10 off coupon, or 2 credits gets you a $20 off coupon.

For some reason it doesn't alway work at my store.
Also they have an iOS/Android app that allows you to scan the QR code on your prescriptions to have them refilled without ever having to call them in (you can type the info in yourself as well).

I buy almost everything at Meijer's now.

I find that EB Games is at least convenient for pre-orders, I just need my card and I can handle it easy with my social anxiety. I have had no problems in the past with my pre-order bonuses through them (pokeball and chest 3DS game cases, and toy Groudon). I did not even know if there was a pre-order bonus when I put one down for The Witcher 3 a few weeks ago, but apparently there is a steelbook case for my country.

I'd say bring it with, yeah.

Less chance of a screwup from them.
