Before any of you type any inane replies like "If you don't like it, play GTA instead," let me remind you, GTA is dead too.

The "Saints Row" franchise used to actually have an identity - as the best gang-themed game since "GTA: San Andreas". "Saints Row 2" is my favorite game on the 360. It was my ultimate escape from reality because it let me customize my character to look exactly like me and be the most feared gangbanger in the city. It was also the perfect mix of serious realism and humorous fantasy. Now the franchise has sold out to the sci-fi and comedy crowd. The franchise doesn't even know what it wants to be anymore. I played parts 3 and 4 the whole way through and thoroughly hated them. The stories, gameplay and endings were highly uninspired. I wish Deep Silver and Volition would kill this franchise already. They obviously don't respect old-school fans who made it possible to begin with.

I liked Saint's Row 3 and 4. I don't know why though. I still don't know why I enjoyed Serious Sam 2 while every other Serious Sam fan hated it. I still don't know why I enjoyed Destroy All Humans! Big Willy Unleashed despite the negative feedback that game received. I also still don't know why I enjoyed Megaman Starforce while every other Megaman fan hated the series until Capcom cancelled the whole franchise.

That's basically what Saints Row has become now - a less funny version of "Destroy all Humans." I can tell the reason they went this route is because so many idiots called it a "GTA ripoff". I'll bet those morons never even played "Saints Row". Besides, Volition needs to grow a set and give Rockstar some competition. I remember when "Saints Row 2" and "GTAIV" both came out, they were both at war with each other and I chose "Saints Row 2" hands because that game had so many things I wanted in it while "GTAIV" was an almost unforgivable disappointment.

I actually liked Saints Row 3 the best out of all of these types of games. I enjoyed SR4 but not nearly as much. I didn't care for the super powers or virtual reality story.

I didn't like SR2 much at all. I think it's mainly because I played 3 first.

I personally love Saints Row 3 & 4 ( and Gat Out Of Hell )...2 was the best overall, but imo the gameplay got better with 3 ( especially the flight controls.... ). Plus, Saints Row 3 gave us my 2nd favorite character in the series, Viola DeWynter ( voiced by former pornstar Sasha Grey no less ) and 4 gave us one of my favorite weapons ever: the Dubstep Gun. Sure there are problems ( Genki Mind Over Matter activities in 4 were terrible...and I have always hated escort ), but I still find them fun. I hope they announce Saints Row 5 for PS4 & Xbox One soon....

Never played the 4th one because it went too silly. I liked the balance of serious and silly. 2 was the best. 3 had zombie mode but limited it to single player only :(

Gta was the first game of this type so by that logic any open world game is a Gta copy. I've even seen people say that.

Saints row, and now watch dogs. I don't see them as copies but what gta created as becoming a genre like fps or rpg. Are all rts games just a copy of AoE, no.

I'd rather have multiple games in each genre.

I just want a violent open world game that combines the best parts of Carmageddon and Postal 2. I mean, Postal 2 does a lot of things right, but it doesn't have a big enough world to explore as it's *technically* still a checkpoint-based corridor shooter, just one that gives you a lot more freedom than usual. It also doesn't let you operate vehicles, and the amount of interaction you have with the environment is severely limited. As for Carmageddon, the driving is really fun as is the feeling you get from plowing down pedestrians, but again, the freedom is a bit limited by the fact that you're still technically in a race of sorts, though it's more like a demolition derby.

Now, a lot of people would say that GTA would be right up my alley for these things... except it's not. It's lacking in terms of actual violence and gore, the cops kill you WAY too easily, and the driving and gunplay feel awkward. I just want over-the-top arcadey thrills in an open environment where I can run people over, shoot stuff, break things, blow s**t up, light stuff on fire... Basically, I'm looking for the bastard child of Postal 2, Carmageddon, Minecraft, and GTA. :P

I'm actually working on some ideas that might suit your specifications! :) Let's just hope to god someone will help me find an online game design degree or that I can design 3D games independently.

The funny thing is, people don't deem to realize that "GTA 3" practically clones "Driver 2". So for them to call every competing game a "GTA ripoff" is irrelevant. I'm not saying GTA didn't revolutionize crime-themed sandbox games though.

I agree, they could have gone in the same direction like Sleeping Dogs and Mafia.

I miss the SR1 and SR2 formula, they had better storylines and stillwater blows steelport out of the water.

The Stillwater flashback mission in SR4 is probably the best mission in the whole game.
