From what I've read most people here don't play FPSs as they do take a lot of motor coordination. I was wondering however how many people here are able to proficiently play fast paced FPSs like Call of Duty, Team Fortress 2, and Halo. By proficiently I mean the ability to aim with relative precision on the dot and remember what buttons do and are able to incorporate them into your gameplay. I was absolutely terrible when I was 12 but now I am able to play games like this well.

I guess that I am not bad, I do play Halo. I fairly recently picked up Halo ODST and realised I was in the middle of trying to beat it on Legendary difficulty, which is tough but I managed to do it.

FPS can be fun and I enjoy the dance of movement and aim. I have tended to get frustrated with myself in some games where I just screw up when to sprint and so miss the shot. And I don't think I am as proficient at precision weapons like say battle rifles compared to others. I can recall some games in the past where I have had some great rampages though, not bad at stealth.

Hm, in my case, I have the coordination to do it, and as far as reaction and processing time goes, I'm.... abnormally fast. Like, *very* fast. Very useful in fighting games, that. It's my prime advantage in basically... everything.

BUT. When it comes to team-based FPS games? Ahhh.... I have no sense of tactics or anything like that. My idea of "strategy" in an action game is to shout incoherantly and then charge straight at the nearest target, whatever that might be. I often say I have a berserker style in alot of games, but... it doesnt really help in this genre. I also have no patience. On top of that, I"m really spacey all the time. I can get confused easily or distracted by things. I can process lots of things at once... but that also means I'm AWARE of lots of things at once. I dont seem to have the ability to fully focus on something, as many NTs seem to be able to do. So things outside the game can distract me very easily.

However, if we're talking single-player, THAT is a different story. Very different. I'm not going to get too much challenge out of that in most cases. And I tend to prefer older FPS games over more recent ones, as singleplayer stuff goes. Though there's obviously exceptions. And distractions arent as bad there as I can simply pause the game if something is pulling my attention away.

during my FPS days, i don't know how people were so perfect at it. the game was so laggy and yet i constantly got the one-hit-kill headshot from my opponents. meanwhile, i am blasting away at them and nothing happens.

(this was Metroid Prime: Hunters for DS. incase anybody was wondering.)

Just the lag working to their advantage, probably. There's alot of factors that go into how lag affects things, and Nintendo was notoriously bad at keeping things lag-free back then. Nowadays, they have no such issues, fortunately. But there was a time where it was amazing that the games even WORKED online whatsoever.

Of course, it could also have been your connection, that's always a factor.

I have motion sickness related to gaming and most modern FPS makes me so dizzy that I feel like I will vomit after 20 mins of playing. It seems to be an effect that got worse the older I got.

I consider myself rather good at FPS games, in particular Team Fortress 2 where i tend to be amongst the top scoring players. I can play all the classes well and know pretty much all the maps. It's really satisfying knowing how much worth you are and how much you know about the maps which allows you to make a successful ambush every time. (except spy).

I also like Painkiller which despite its simplicity is some of the most fast paced fun i have experienced.

Despite that i am do not play a lot of other FPS games because i perceive most of them to be very bad due to being formulaic, poorly optimized and way too similar to each other. Try one try 'em all.

Most FPS games have something called an FOV slider found in the options menu which can increase your field of view. most people who have motion sickness can reduce it by upping the FOV

I'm usually pretty bad, but I get streaks. I'm best at "tactical" FPS where I get to order a squad around, like Operation Flashpoint. When I used to play Counter-Strike, I would either be at the bottom of the barrel or suspected of cheating.

On the PC with mouse and keyboard, yes, definitely. Console FPS with a gamepad, not so much.

I think I heard somewhere once that you're not really supposed to "aim" with the gamepad, but just get the sights in the general direction, and then slowly strafe and/or wait for the player to walk into the right spot.

Also, most modern day console FPS make me feel really uncomfortable, because the field of view is so low, I feel like I have really bad tunnel vision. You can never see when enemies are at 2 or 10 o'clock, and I always forget to look at the radar.

Haha  for a lot of people this is very true but I've learned to get my sight right on the person and track them with my sights up to about 30 meters

I enjoy first person shooters... but I SUCK at them. :P I did manage to beat Ultimate Doom on ultra-violence difficulty with only a keyboard and no cheats though. :) I used to be pretty big on multiplayer FPS, but nowadays I prefer singleplayer games, generally of the oldschool variety.

I used to play Call of Duty professionally, however I played defensively because it helped give me time to think and not have to worry too much.
I had to quit online FPS games because they make me act different and make me stress a lot.

I'm not super good at them nor am I terrible. I used to be really bad at them, but I noticed that I'm better at FPS games on an Xbox 360 than a Ps3. I think that's because an Xbox 360 controller is more spread out and easier on my wrists.

Anyone here have Xbox Live (360) and Battlefield 4? I would love to play with any of you guys. My gamertag is bsteiny16.

Edit: On second thought, I could do Call of Duty, Halo or Destiny as well.
