Nintendo NX

-What would you guys like to see implemented into the new system?
-What games would you guys most like to see be released for this system?
-Do you guys think it will be another flop?
I'm really looking forward to the NX being released, and I hope that Nintendo will do something different this time. The only thing I'm kinda weary about is that there will be no optical drive, according to what I've been reading. You will be able to use multiple platforms for games (you can use games on the portable system and the console)--I'm not sure about this, either, but I guess we'll see.
Hopefully they will use their proprietary SD game card format for the home console so you can play it on the handheld (They can be as big as Blu-rays, while having faster read/write speeds).
Obviously, not all games will be cross compatible.
Each system will have it's share of exclusives due to power differences and other features.
Though it should mean the Virtual Console is finally cross platform.
Also in the end the unified OS and development environment should allow for them to produce more games easier.
This means it will be ONE Mario Kart, ONE Smash Bros, ONE Animal Crossing, and the same for many other games instead of making a distinct portable and console versions (it will save them tons of resources).
Will Western 3rd parties return in force? probably not, they will just continue releasing their E-rated content and EA may not even bother to show up.

Something.... Weird... Something...
I dont particularly care, to be honest. I'm just not that interested in consoles anymore, not after making the switch to the PC. Hell, I dont even browse the Gamestops or other stores for games anymore; it's gotten to the point where I just automatically EXPECT uninteresting things and disappointment.
Hell, the Wii U is the one I've liked the most in..... er.... a long time (and I *hated* the Wii before it), yet at the same time.... I barely own anything for it. Which in my case isnt a matter of money at all... if I want something I'll just go buy it. But there isnt too much to buy. I got Smash, I got Splatoon, and there's Mario related stuff, but.... that's it. I've no interest in anything else. It's been the same with the PS4... I bought it for LittleBigPlanet 3, later bought Mortal Kombat at random, and then Destiny also at random, and.... that's it. I've exhausted the library.
I think, in the end, if the NX goes forward with the very few current franchises I give a damn about, I'll pick one up to play them. Though... that depends on WHAT it does and what it is. No more motion control, firstly. Just.... never again. I refuse. I wont do it. And I'm sure as heck hoping that all of these rumors I hear about VR crap are indeed just rumors, as that's an instant deal-killer as well, Smash or no Smash.
If it avoids those concepts though, and contains those games, then yes, I'll probably buy it. But I'll likely not follow it's development much. My interest wont spark until those games are about to release on it.
I have no opinion on it until I know details about it.
I hope the thing isn't download only. I love physical games, and would hate to have a console where instead of owning games for it, you only own a license to play those games for an undetermined period of time.
...but if they release a Zelda game for it, I will probably get one =|
I hope not, but I'm sure that's the way it will be. I already feel that the 3DS suffers from this problem a lot. Many of the games feel too much like console games...if it wasn't for Streetpass, I would probably rarely take it with me when I travel, I'd bring my GBA instead. When I'm away from home, I like games where I can sit down for 15-30 minutes and make some real progress...a lot of these newer style games feel like I need to sit down somewhere comfortable with them for a few good hours.
Obviously, the games you listed work well enough on both consoles and handhelds, but imagine trying to play something like Wind Waker or Metroid Prime on your lunch break at work.

Every Mario Kart game plays like Mario Kart game.
The only difference is it jumped to 3D with the DS games making them very similar to the console versions.
Thus you don't need two specialized versions, when you can make one version that can be played on both, with hardware exclusive features.
Same goes for Smash Bros, they literally took ~3+ years with a huge team from Namco and Nintendo to develop both Smash Bros Wii U and 3DS (both games were developed in tangent using different engines and assets).
If they had a unified architect and OS, they could have developed one engine and one set of assets, cutting the development time down significantly.
Other series such as Mario, Zelda, and Fire Emblem should have scalable engines that can run on both pieces of hardware while using the same assets.
This would allow Nintendo to develop them in tangent or very close together without using extra resources (Engines and assets take up most of the development time and resources).
This means a smaller second team can make the other game(s) relatively fast without the need of coding from scratch (they would be starting like at 80%+)
This is what Apple does with iOS, OSX, and Watch OS software, you can literally use ~85%+ of the same code on all of Apple's OSs which makes developing the same piece of software for all 3 (4 if you including iPad) that much easier.
Even iOS and WatchOS used a modified OSX Kernal too.
WindWaker is a bad example, since practically every Zelda lets you save at anytime in the menu.
Metroid Fusion (GBA) was the first handheld Metroid to have save stations implemented like the console counterparts.
Play Metroid Fusion and certain areas can take over an hour before getting to a save station (it does have a sleep mode built in).
The handheld and console will probably end up sharing 90% of all the games.

Yeah, but play Wind Waker for 15 minutes, and then play Link's Awakening for 15 minutes, and tell me which one actually felt like you made some decent progress
Not sure what you mean about Metroid Fusion having save stations, Metroid 2 had them also.

The point is, their new unified OS and development architect means code once, scale to each hardware as needed.
They used tons of resources to get two different versions of Smash 4 out, which is what they are trying to avoid doing again.
Not sure what you mean about Metroid Fusion having save stations, Metroid 2 had them also.
Ah I forgot about Metroid 2 (As did nearly everyone else). Though Metroid Fusion feels more like a full sequel to Super Metroid Prime than Metroid 2 does to Metroid (NES).
I definitely got farther in Wind Waker in 15 minutes that I did with Link's Awakening DX.
Hell I never could complete Link's Awakening DX, cause the game annoyed me (had to use a guide after an hour).
The only handheld Zelda I've ever enjoyed was a Link Between Worlds (3DS).

No more Miis!
Less online, more back to the basics; all that is part of the game is IN the game.
Bring back the option of using normal regular controllers
This one is impossible, I know, because there are so many different types of game cartridges they've had, but I'd like to be able to play all my old games on it. hey, i can dream. I don't mean a download one can buy, I mean the physical copy I already have
I prefer handhelds, so I might not get it at all. But if I do, I wanna see
Pokemon
Old-fashioned Mario platforms
Mario Party and Kart
F-Zero
Hope not
The article in your link suggested they might go back to cartridges. I'd like that a lot if that was the case.
Sounds good, but we'll have to see
