I have not been playing video games for almost a year now. Now that Witcher 3 and Metal Gear 5 are out or soon to be released. I want to know what it the cheapest way to play.

Both games are on pc, ps4 and xbone. If you have a pc that can run the games then you could always torrent. That'd be the cheapest. PS4 and Xbone are both about $350 new and games are $59.99. Phantom Pain is coming out for ps3 and 360 as well for $49.99. That'd be the cheaper option.

Ah, I'll chime in here and very, VERY strongly advise AGAINST torrenting. Seriously. Dont do it. I've seen the results of this "safe" way of doing things..... and had to FIX them too many times. Let's just say, when it goes bad, usually only SOME of the damage can be repaired. You could end up paying a huge blob of cash as a result, actually, to fix things. And no, a mere virus scanner isnt good enough to guarantee safety. Not even close. Particularly when dealing with pirated software. Very bad idea.

Anyway, there really isnt any truly cheap way to play anything like that. One way or another, the device needed to run the game is going to cost at least a few hundred. With PCs being by far the most expensive. Use a PC for gaming only if you're interested in the thing's selection enough to warrant it (there's *ALOT* of games, and I seriously cannot stress that word enough, that are on PC yet will never, EVER touch consoles, but PCs balance this out by coming with all sorts of hilarious problems of their own). And by that I mean only if you intend on using the PC for gaming VERY FREQUENTLY and not just for a couple of games. Be aware also that most major AAA games on PC are actually ports, and ports are notorious for being buggy wads of glitches. Which can include game-breaking, machine-crashing, or even save-destroying glitches. And of course, they can have other problems, such as getting them running in the first place. So yeah.... dont do PC unless you intend on getting ALOT out of it.

If that's not the case, just get one of the consoles, and it'll be much cheaper and less problematic in the long run. But be sure to examine, carefully, the selection each console has to determine which one you might want more. You may also want to try the things out first somehow... particularly the controllers. Nothing sucks more in gaming than getting a console and then finding out that you just hate the controller it uses.

Note also that I say this as someone that is actually almost a complete PC gamer; 90% of the gaming I do is on the PC. So that bit that might sound anti-PC really isnt... it's just me being very blunt about the problems it comes with.

The cheapest way is to keep an eye on steam and the humble store.

Becouse steam has no physical disks, they need no distribution or storages, so they are a few dollars cheaper, sometimes.
The biggest draw is their sales though, a few weeks back they had shadow of mordor for 50%; so you can get good deals if you are willing to wait a few weeks after release.

The humble store is even cheaper, they have bundles with a handful of games on the cheap: i have gotten the entire 'the sims' and all the 'xcom' games for a total of $10 off of that, for example

That too.

Those sales are HUUUUUUUUUGE.

Though, the one thing to keep in mind: AAA games that are recent will NOT be hit with big sales for... awhile. They just arent. Which makes sense: the costs of making them are just WAY too high for that to be a workable idea. They need early sales at full price.

But anything else? 80% off isnt even rare, with Steam.

I love it. It's where I get nearly all of my gaming purchases.
