I bought MK X on Steam last week a day after it came out. Pretty good, although I miss the Story mode from MK Deception (the last game in the series I played, some years back). Of the new characters – which include children from some of the older characters, such as Johnny Cage, Jax and Sonya – I'm really liking Kung Jin, a cousin of Kung Lao but with a different (mostly) fighting style. Is anyone else playing this game (or any of the other MK games)?

I had been thinking about picking it up on Steam, it looks fantastic. I played the last installment and really enjoyed the return to the original game mechanics. I thought that the story mode did an excellent job at tying together the first three games as well.

Bought it the moment it came out. Or, well, I say "moment", but I actually spent 3 hours arguing with the PS4 because PSN was being a twit.

As a fan of fighting games that typically prefers fast, combo-focused games (like Guilty Gear), I have to say this one is excellent. Absolutely excellent. It is indeed very fast, there is indeed alot of comboing, the character's movesets are interesting, and the game mechanics work out very well. The only problem I think alot of people are going to run into is just HOW the combos work; if you're playing casually or at a low level, you dont need to worry about it too much. But if you're going any further past that, you need to be able to pull off "proper" combos, which are the long ones that can do anywhere from 20% to 35% damage (the biggest ones usually requiring meter to do). But the way the comboing works is a little.... strange. In something like Guilty Gear, if I want to do a combo that has me hit buttons 1, 2, and 3 in order, and then a special move, I do each individual command at the right time based on the animation. If I hit 3 while 1 is still happening, all that'll happen is a screwed up combo that doesnt work. Makes sense, yeah? Well MK doesnt do it that way... usually. If I want to do the very same combo in MK, I smash the hell outta that set of commands very fast, all at once; typically getting the entire string in before move number 2 is done. The rest of the combo will then play out on it's own. Buuuut, that's when you're using the combos in your character's movelist as part of a full combo (which usually, you need to). Other parts of the very same full combo you're doing may require you to use traditional timing AND the juggling mechanic. So it's very.... complicated. It took me freaking forever to grasp this, I'd thought I was just screwing up the actual inputs over and over again. I found a video though that explained it all nicely, so that helped.

Currently, I'm using Scorpion alot, who is the main one I've worked out a couple of major combos for. I still havent messed with the other characters all that much, but I'll get to all of them soon.

And I love just HOW MUCH CONTENT is in the game. I mean, holy crap, there's so much STUFF. That Krypt! And every single thing in the game has such incredible detail. This game is an example of how AAA games SHOULD be made. I think of this game, with it's barrels of unending THINGS in it and all these different modes and things to do, VS a game like Evolve, which released with just a few characters with like half a gun each, and 3 monsters, and.... yeah. I'm going to be comparing other AAA games to MK now, as they release, since I really just think that it is the right way to do it, finally. There's just no excuse to have such small amounts of content, really. Though, I'd expected no less from MK, which has typically always been stuffed with.... er, stuff.

I don't remember when was the last time that I felt so interested in a fighting game.
Haven't bought it yet, but I'm so excited to play it... Can't wait for next month to come and finally have the money for it.
Some friends bought it and are just calling it one of the best fighting games from a loonng time. From what I've seen from streams and reviews it surely looks like it!
And I can already feel that D'vorah will be one of my main characters... I freaking love her playstile!

Yeah, the game seems to have gotten good reviews overall. Not bad. Well, unless you have the PC version, which I have. It's been having an awful lot of problems, particularly with online play. Still, I've been able to have a lot of fun with it.

At least until the new patch came...

They've released the new patch adding Jason Voorhees (among other things) ... and now all my PC save data has been lost! 8O   Over 30 hours of accumulated progress, gone!

Apparently this has happened to a lot of PC users, so I've lodged a request for help. But from what I've read online, now that my save data has been lost it looks like it isn't recoverable. Damn. I really like the game, but I would really rather not have to start all over again.

Yeah.... that's why I specifically avoided that version. NORMALLY I buy the PC versions of anything that is on there, but not in the case of a game like this. Ports are.... usually bad in alot of ways. I expected to see the PC version of the game exploding with bugs and problems. I was not disappointed in this.

As for the game itself, the combo system continues to bug me. It's just so freaking strange. In... basically every other fighting game, you input the next move when it's actually time to use the next move. In this, you input them all at once even if the first one or two strikes of it arent even done yet. Until it's time to juggle as part of the combo, at which point the input style switches. Very unintuitive... I find it rather annoying.

I've only played so much of it though; been too distracted by other games lately. Since Guilty Gear was an absolute bust for me (still so very angry about that), my main fighting game currently is still Smash, so that's taking precedence.

On the note of save files, it might be best to locate them next time and back them up every now and then. With a port that went wrong, that type of thing is alot more likely to happen; even when the devs think they've fixed it.

I pre-ordered it because Goro is my 2nd favorite character. Mileena and Scorpion are my two other favorites. I was worried that Mileena wouldn't be in the roster for the game, but she is.

Anyway, I'm visiting family right now so I'm having to wait to play it. I got mine for the Ps4. I don't have many Ps4 fighting games other than Injustice, but Dead or Alive Last Round is the main one I want to play as well as Mortal Kombat X.

Yeah, some kombos I still haven't been able to work out, no matter what input timing I try. One of Mileena's comes to mind, but I can't remember which. Most I can figure out through trial and error, and remember with practice. Scorpion has surprisingly few kombos, so I don't tend to use him that much. I'm using Kung Jin a lot ATM: he's easy to use and has some powerful kombos strings, especially when paired with enhanced special moves and x-ray (although getting the timing right with these takes practice).

I might have to look into that. I'd rather not have this happen again.

Yeah, it's pretty irritating. Normally with fighting games, I *never* do things like look up combos, watch combo/fight vids, or deal with all of that frame gibberish. Dont NEED to, even against very high level players. Typically, this is in games like Guilty Gear, Blazblue, and that sort. I can come up with my own screwball combos and they work.

But THIS one? Ugh. I like the game in an overall sense, but I cant say I really like how the comboing mechanics work. It's just so.... weird. Annoying. Not BAD, just annoying.

Yep, I'm playing! About done with my 3rd faction to 50. I'm mostly a Cutthroat Kano player but I desperately want to be good at Combat Ops Sonya. Part of the story really really irked me because it was blatantly unfinished and changed at the last second as far as I can tell.

I'm normally very skeptical about characters that are new because I prefer to play as characters where I know how to play as. D'Vorah is pretty awesome. So, yeah. D'Vorah is one of my favorite character's now.

Finally got a response back from them. As I feared, the lost save data is irrecoverable. But this has happened to quite a lot of PC users, so as compensation they gave me the unlock all Krypt items DLC for free. Which is nice, but it still means I have to start all over again. Sigh.

Haven't played this game much recently, because for me (on PC) the game constantly keeps slowing down to the point of making it unplayable. It'll start off at 60 fps, but then in the middle of a game it'll drop to at least half that. I've been able to play a couple of games as both Jason and Tanya, but otherwise haven't bothered with it. They're still trying to fix the multitude of issues with the PC port, but goodness knows how long that'll take. :(

How's life in non-PC MKX world? Pretty good? I can only wonder with envy.

I've played Mortal Kombat X on the college campus on the Xbox one version (which i don't care for) and this had been a huge improvement over Mortal Kombat 9. I personally like using Kenshi, Quan Chi, Kotal Kahn and Sub-Zero. I wouldn't recommend using the Xbox controller for fighting games like Mortal Kombat X because it's doesn't feel right unless you switch to alternative like the arcade joystick. Otherwise, it's better to get it on the PS4 version.

For me, i'll wait for the kollection Edition (with all the DLCs) to come out, but it's still a good game though.

I just finished watching a Youtube walkthrough of that game.

As violent as ever, but still entertaining.

As I posted in the other thread.

Quote:
FYI to anyone who owns the PC version of MK X...

WB has plugged the plug on the PC version due to all the refunds requested through Steam and the consumer backlash over the issues regarding the PC version.

Officially there will be no more support for the PC version including new patches, the rest of the DLC, and other stuff.

WB claims the PC users are being too unruly over the condition of PC version and due to low sales/high refunds, it's not worth the cost for them to fix the game on PC.

The actually announced this over a week ago.

So going forward from MK X, WB will no longer release their games on PC/Steam due to the PC market being "hostile" to them.
MK X was the final straw for WB on PC (The horrible Arkham ports started the issue)
PC/Steam was just Nintendoed (the majority of WB games don't release on Nintendo systems for the same reasons).
