I just find this silly sometimes. I'm playing a game and there are achievements that are rewarded if you die in a certain way.

Here are a few games I've played that have such achievements.

Black Mesa Source:
Resonance Procrastinator - When the sample is ready, just wait long enough until the anti-mass spectrometer becomes uncontainable.
Prophylactic Suggested - Let a headcrab kill you.
Hyper Saturation Conundrum - Drown in the Lambda Core's coolant.
Quantum Capacitance - Overcharge the Tau-cannon.
Universal Gravitation - Get killed by your own Snarks.

Portal 2:
Pit Boss - Escape Wheatley's death trap and run off for a bit and then head back. Jump into the bottomless abyss.
Good Listener - Take GLaDOS' escape advice.

Portal Stories: Mel:
Testing the Waters - When you finally reach the bottom floor of the elevator, you'll see an underground Aperture building to your left and deadly water to your right. As Dethklok would say, "Go into the water."
Crushed - Once you're in the weight testing for weighted storage cubes' ability to press buttons, stand in the doorway until it closes.
Electrocution - After you find Virgil and turn on the power, the water you crossed before will be electrified so dive right in.
Into Darkness - While Virgil is lighting the path in the darkness, he'll shine a light over a hole to avoid. Go into the hole.

Eh, alot of achievements in games really arent achievements... they give them to you for things like picking a character or finishing a tutorial! I've always had this problem with the whole concept.

And then people go on and brag about their gamerscore or whatever it is, even if they did things like buy a super-easy game JUST to get points out of it. It's like, just... what.... but you hardly DID anything to earn that... Ugh.

Dont like the whole system whatsoever, I usually ignore it.

Don't forget things like The Simpsons Game giving an achievement for pressing the start button on the title screen and Deathsmiles ( I forget if it was the 1st game or the 2nd ) giving one for....pausing the game. I'm proud of my 180,000+ gamerscore, but some of those achievements just aren't well thought out ( nevermind the achievements that are actually somewhat challenging or take a long time to do but glitch and never effing unlock...dang LEGO Clone Wars )

One of my own favorites was on Steam, in Dungeons of Dredmor.

Suddenly the Dungeon Collapses: Have the game crash.

...no, seriously. That's the achievement.

Granted, with that dev team it's definitely intended purely as a joke, but still.

IIRC, Microsoft forces devs to include a certain amount of achievements in their games, whether they want to or not =)

That would definitely explain a few things.

Sort of.

In Resident Evil 4, there's a small area where, if you shoot into a lake enough times, the monster within will come out and kill you. It was made into an achievement in the HD versions released for PS3 and Xbox 360. I thought it was funny. : P

Well uh, not really an achievement but in Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare I only seem to get supply drops(crates in which you can get weapon variants and gear for your character) when I die.

I played Harvest Moon Magic Melody, where you collect musical notes for all kinds of different achievements to revive the Harvest Goddess who's turned into a statue, and one of them was for working until I passed out and woke up in the hospital. Apparently, it was a learning experience for my character not to push him or herself too hard. There's even an achievement for being utterly broke.

But it's not nearly as dumb or shameless as a lot of Xbox achievements, like looking up girl's skirts.

I have that achievement lol...you're referring to the one from Lollipop Chainsaw right?

Ironic achievement: I got the achievement in Rare Replay for beating every level of Snake Rattle & Roll after getting a game over on the 2nd level....

this gives me an idea for a forum game, make your own video game "achievements"!

The other day I got an award in The Sims 4 for becoming friends with The Grim Reaper. I didn't even die or become old first. I don't know what I did exactly, he just called up one of my Sims on the phone and asked to talk, and I said yes.

I have a guide to The Sims 4, maybe I should go take a look at it.
