I play golf in real life on occasion, and I'm also playing Mario Golf: World Tour for the 3DS.

I love the tournaments. Particularly the "majors" you qualify for by placing in regular world tournaments, four times a year just like real golf majors! These have you string 18 holes together to shoot the lowest score possible (I generally get -20 to -23 in regular tournaments, and I've shot -18 or better all four majors which are on tougher courses - far better than real-life golf pros ever shoot!)

The ultimate video game golf experience for me? 72 holes, live, NO RESTARTS, I have to accept all my mistakes and move on - in true authentic golf tournament fashion.

I've never played golf in real life and have no real interest in doing so, but I've been playing the Hot Shots Golf game series since the very beginning. I remember my sister's boyfriend introducing me to it back in the late 90s and I was hooked. The developer of the first game went on to do the Mario Golf games which are also good. I just recently started playing Hot Shots Golf: Out of Bounds again after a long hiatus. I've had opportunities to play golf for real but never pursued it. Seems like too much work, having to get and maintain equipment and arranging to play on a course, when I can fire up Hot Shots any time I please.
