I can't decide
I haven't played FFVII, FFIX, FFXI, Dirge of Cerberus and Crystal Chronicles yet.
FFX-2 is good, nevertheless it seems like a cosplay game. FFII has a weird leveling system, but I don't think it's the worst game of the series. Althought FFI doesn't have storyline, I enjoyed playing the game.

For me it's FFVII.
Reason being that Squaresoft sold out to Sony and tried way too hard to make the FF series appeal to the mainstream crowd.
I'm not going to go into all the details, because the old school FF fans already know exactly what I'm talking about, and no explanation is needed.
I mean no disrespect to FFVII fans, but we'll just have to agree to disagree on this one. Perhaps it's more the mark of a generation gap than anything else.
I play FF and other RPGs since 2000, maybe I'm not an old FF fan (Although I love FFIV and FFVI, FFVIII was my first played game of the series), but I have an idea about what you are talking about. Almost every NT gamer I know think FFVII is the best FF game and they haven't played the games before VII.
