As for a bit of a personal general comment on the game:
We're constantly being barraged with 4th wall trickery.
For example, right at the beginning, the option to err...ahh, "flirt" with Toriel. Now, I'd personally flirt with goatmom and that's probably weird enough, however...am I really going to ask my representation in this world - who "appears" to be a small kid no less - to do that for me? That's a real question that seems to need an answer when you're actually "there".
There are several dimensions of immersion involved. Experiencing the game is like being on a constant roller-coaster of emotional - dare I say moral - triggers such as that.
I have to consider; Do I attempt to empathise with my representation in the world and do my best to act in their interests or do I immerse to such a degree with the "game world" that I personally make the moral choices as though I was the one standing in that world?
I'd certainly imagine that my own feelings for Toriel would be quite different than the feelings of the character who appears to act as my representation in the game...or would they?
It says something about us and our own personal dimension of immersion in the "game world" if we consider Toriel as Toriel or goatmom...or is she both?
I'm not sure if this game is fascinating or scary for its ability to reach through into my reality, poke around with my emotional constructs by having me experience "weird things" that touch upon me personally, and then back up and say: "Hey, just a game and a set of zero's and one's that all exists in the computer...nothing to see here. None of this matters."
There's a lot to learn from what the UT crew have done with this. It's definitely a piece of art. An experience in and of itself.
Thanks Alphys

this is a good point!! frisk does definitely feel like a character of their own, and the game did a great job of conveying a story through frisk, kind of tricking the player that they were frisk themself which was very clever!! i also thought that it was clever that the name the player chose was that of chara's rather than their own! as much as i would love a self immersive version of undertale, the game was such a piece of art that it would be so difficult to make it good in my opinion! maybe theres a good undertale dating sim out there for those of us that dont feel comfortable flirting as a kid (i felt the same way in that!) hahaha! anyways though, it has been confirmed that toby fox has planned to make a graphic novel since he got enough money after the kickstarter! chances are that undertale wont just end at the game! maybe in the graphic novel well get to learn more! maybe mettaton will reveal more about his past as a ghost? some revealed stuff about w.d. gaster?? maybe someone will find a way to free asriel from being stuck as flowey???? im crossing my fingers that theres more to find out!! !
also that mightve been a bit off topic but i know how you feel!! it felt very real to play the game, i was probably almost unhealthily determined to find out what i would have to do next!! i really felt like i was frisk, that the safety of everyone was in my hands! the constant 4th wall breaking of flowey was probably the freakiest part of it! i still have the game on my desktop, but i wont play it again in fear that i am really going to take everyones world away. long rant short, what a breathtaking game!!

Yaaaaaaas. I finished the True Pacifist run quite a few days ago. All of the characters are so memorable in their own ways - even Flowey, once you see his true true form - isn't remotely as bad as he first seems. If you're willing to play the game, you too will wish you had eight legs so you could wear four pairs of hotpants. NYEH HEH HEH HEH HEH HEH HEH HEH HEH HEH HEH HEH HEH! ...HEH. coneyCOOL Also, I'll be hyped if Hard Mode ever becomes legit.
Frisk sure did good, didn't they?
I lowkey think some of Flowey's creepier faces are a laugh riot.

Yeah, you might have spoiled it...
It's a bit like drugs. If someone explains to you what might happen under the influence of a drug based upon their own experience then chances are you'll fixate upon what you've been told during the effect of the drug when you take it yourself the first time and therefore diminish the potential of it based upon the preconceived preconceptions you've been loaded with.
However, not knowing what is going to happen leaves one open to the experience based solely upon your own imaginative resources. You're at the mercy of your own potential.
If someone asked me to describe the effect of a drug they knew I'd tried then I wouldn't explain anything to them about what might happen because my experiences might taint their own experience.
If I was going to ask someone to play Undertale, I wouldn't explain anything about it to them. I'd just assure them that it's err...interesting.
There's going to be quite a few people put off by the art style and the characters ("Ugh, furries an hero!"), not to mention the "weird things" in the game...but I've got one of those personalities that thrives on novelty and always has to challenge what the society around me considers to be "normal", "moral" or "correct", especially when their hypocritical, lieing, bible copypasta, self-righteous bu115hit impinges on me. People used to think I was twisted for enjoying Final Fantasy 8 back in the day for example, but for me it was about the novelty. You couldn't really guess that the university building was actually a transformer in disguise or that phenomenal combat damage could be achieved by a young girl placing a large dog on her wrist cannon and cannonballing him.
SPOONY FF8 REVIEW : youtube{dot}com/watch?v=UQHdqUAVztk
All kinds of weird...the novelty...breaking traditional boundaries...leaving me in a general perpetual state of WTF...just love that stuff.
In the beginning, the player character (I'm not certain what to call them due to the ambiguous nature of the game world) is wearing nothing more than bandages and carrying a stick.
Later, there's some reference in Snowdin to those bandages being ooey-gooey or some such.
In NEW HOME one of the coffins is empty and there are some scraps of bandage left behind.
Apparently, the body in that last coffin was moved to the ruins - or more specifically the catacombs - by Toriel and buried right where the player character begins...
The game world does not exclude the potential of "living" skeletons.
Bringing the dead to life...is a part of the story.
These pieces of information, when deducing possible conclusions from them, are something gut-twisting and shiver worthy in my opinion.
i guess i can see where you're coming from, even though i accidentally spoiled a lot for myself on tumblr, and i still really enjoyed it!
did you end up beating the full game?

for sure! i loved it! although idk if i would be able to start over, after beating the true pacifist run, i'd feel really guilty restarting the timeline and make all of the monsters go back to the underground

my sister pirated the game, i think it looks okay. i have never played it and don't plan to, soon.
haha yeah the hype over the game can seem a little... annoying. i know thats how i felt before i played it. i personally think you should at least give it a go! if you dont like it, then at least you know for sure that it isnt for you, instead of possibly missing out on something!
