League of Legends: Rage Inducer or movie with buttons
Hello, I noticed that League of Legends has a terrible stigma to it due to its mass amount of trolls. I for one enjoy trolls quite a bit. I am not personally a troll. However, most League players are mostly around the 10-18 area, are mostly single, and have rage issues. so naturally, it means avoid the Game right? not quite.... I always see trolls as a chance, they want to go out of thier way to upset you, if you can't be upset no matter what they do (at least not show it) they get more and more frustrated. in a way its trolling the troll. so When I get one I like to play the rolly trolly game. I first try to get them to try out of spite, when it fails, I trick them into actually raging so much at me that they spend more time trying to steal my kills and CS that they usually end up fed. in which case the troll, becomes the carry. everyBODY LOVES TO CARRY so when he/she...lol, sorry couldn't say that straight HE is fed he will go around killing enemies while you handle towers. you may lose but it was fun playing the guy who was trying to screw you over. of course thats just my opinion in this wall of text. what is yours?

I enjoy League of Legends, though I don't know most people who play are between 10 and 18 everyone i know who plays is like over 18. Also a lot of the youtube videos seem to have people more in the 20-30 range. As for trolls every website and online game has them, I don't think league of legends is special in that regard...also sometimes it comes in phases like there will be a couple days of so many trolls and negative attitude as*holes then it will fizzle out again.
But yeah I have been playing for about a year and have gotten decent with a few champions. I am still learning about what builds are best for different champions, as well as runes and masteries. I am fairly stable in top lane, mid lane and bottom support...but I still suck at jungle and adc, probably a little better at jungle at this point. I usually don't let trolls bother me but on occasion it can get to me or at least annoy me but there are also a lot of fun matches with more friendly people.

Well I usually just don't engage much with the trolls and just focus on my game playing. But on occasion I've raged back at them or even gotten actually pissed off(they can't see it) but over here behind my computer screen I'll get all worked up and remind myself to chill out. I am thinking of putting something kind of soft on my front desk drawer because I have gotten angry enough to punch it as an alternate to hitting my computer...but its a hard wood desk so that hurts, and doesn't help to finish the game if your hand hurts.
But that kind of thing isn't too common for me, usually the matches are alright and half the time I probably dont even notice if someones trying to troll or rage at me because I am too busy focusing on the map and such rather than the chat box. Basically generally I ignore them at least as far as they are concerned on screen...but on occasion if its been troll after troll it can piss me off.

well, you say you ignore chat mostly. That is probably where you are able to ignore most trolls. however, I always believed working with your team to be of vital essence, and usually I end up commander if they have no idea what there doing lol. things like giving orders. and the sad part is, after I start being controlling and my team listens to what I say, we win. I once commanded a game from half health nexus to winning. I prefer not to, but for some reason a good commander is really all a lot of these players need. lol

I'd be careful doing that sort of thing, if I were you. Even if they are trolls, trolling them back is all sorts of against the rules. Frankly, you've gotten lucky up till now that you havent gotten in trouble. Probably only because those you've dealt with arent aware of that part of the rules. Had you encountered someone like myself however, watching you do that, you'd likely already have been banned. Particularly if that someone was determined and knew the right people to talk to.
There's a reason why the phrase "dont feed the trolls" is always said so often. This applies to gaming as well. In this case, what the people making the rules always say is to report the trolls, and then ignore them. Sooner rather than later, they get dealt with.
Dont sink to their level, dont be pathetic as they are. It's beneath you, dont you think? People like that arent worth the time it takes to respond to them. That's something I've learned over years and years of constantly dealing with idiots like those. IRL, the most they're worth is a look of absolute disdain. Online, when they hide behind anonymity, I obviously cant do that... but it's even more pathetic there, so even that would be too good for them. They're not worth the effort of it. I've been dealing with bullies since I was little, and I've been dealing with online trolls since there's been online games of any sort. So this all comes from.... way too much experience. Frankly, to have had that much experience in this is bloody depressing. Really shows how nasty people can be. I refuse to sink to that crap myself though.
And in the end... it's just a game. Which is a huge part of what makes it so pathetic that they do that.
Also: Ignoring trolls does not mean not communicating with your team. You ignore JUST the troll. Everyone else, you can talk to. However, wasting time trolling the trolls is wasting time that COULD be used to win. Against a truly GOOD team, this would end the match. Your focus shifts. In any game that requires quick thinking, the tiniest shift of that can end it. It's silly to take chances like that when you dont have to. Granted, the chances of that happening are lower in a game like that than in something like a fighting game (where stuff can be *extremely* fast), but it's still high enough in a match against very high-level opponents.
And dont forget one final thing: If you ruin the match with your counter-trolling, you've ruined it for everyone else on your team (this is the reason why violation of certain rules leads to bans). Not just yourself. That's not fair to them. And in that case, no matter how angry you got them... the troll has just defeated you. You have lost. Utterly and totally. Both in the match, and against them directly. Their anger will leave them almost immediately after the match; they just won, after all. That silly person that thought they could go against them just lost! That's not a good result. Dont want THAT, do you...? Frankly, even if it was a close friend on a constant team with me that did that? I'd boot them immediately and for good. Fortunately nobody I know would think of doing something like that.
Besides. It's dramatically more satisfying to take down a troll or bully without even one insult, without breaking even one rule.
I think you misunderstand me, I never once insult a troll, rather I take their intellect and try to make use of their rather... abstract abilities. they want to troll, I want to win. I don't feed them with insults, I feed them kills in game. as I said, EVERYONE loves being op. and its my kills to give if I weaken them. and most of my games are won when I successfully feed the idiot who likes to cause problems. more than half the time my team will catch on halfway and start helping.

now worries, it makes sense if you only read the first message. but two down I note taking over as commander. you see, I am not the type to piss off a troll for no reason. I always have a goal, and that is to win. thank you for your analytical ideal though. it has made me think about it, perhaps I will look into it to better my anti-troll feeding techniques.
BTW, if anyone wants to add me on league, as I see quite a few forum posts my In game name in zernder. am I allowed to do that? don't think its against the guidelines...

I lived with two different friends who played League obsessively, and they both raged like crazy over it. :X Between that and trying to slog through some Starcraft II custom games, needless to say I've been turned off the MOBA genre completely.
I dunno, I feel like if I were to enjoy MOBAs, or hell even just competitive RTSs in general, I'd have to have better social skills and be able to micromanage things on my feet... which would pretty much mean I'd have to be NT. No thanks. If I ever need to scratch my RTS itch, which I haven't done in years seemingly, I'll load up my old copy of Brood War and set up a comp stomp. Speaking of, that might not be a bad idea. I've been feeling depressed as s**t lately and have been needing something comfy to play.

I do check back on the chat to see if anything important is going on, though there are other ways of communication to like pinging for assistance, that you are headed to a certain spot, or the caution one which I certainly use to. And I will type what I plan to do or think we should do if it seems relevant. But yeah usually its more social conversation or crap talking going on than anything super useful in game, though perhaps the in chat communication is more useful in ranked which I have not played yet really.
