I haven't played many video games, but I'm really interested in video game trivia. So, which video game console company do you think was the best?

At this point, I'd honestly have to say Nintendo.

They were great way back when, in the wonderful era of the NES and SNES, and nowadays they've basically refused to just follow the same dull trends that the others have all jumped into; no overload of military shooters on THAT console. Nintendo seems to be one of the few that remembers that games were originally about fun, before anything else. I've found their current lineup to be the most creative by far. I didnt like the Wii or their obsession with that particular gimmick, but the current stuff is a different story.

Now I might also say Atari sort of... they were great back in the day... but they've fallen HARD since then. They've become a nasty shell of what they used to be, screwing up anything they touch and generally being unpleasant. But back then... they were pretty darn good.

I loved the SNES, they churned out good games one after another.

I kind of like all of them for their own reasons, but with Sony being a more recent and current company (and also with the PS1 being my first games console) then they have to take top spot for me. The PS4 is also decent, although rather underpowered now despite only being about two or three years old. The PS2 is possibly my favourite console of all time, and I take the PS3 over the 360 and Wii. I also find that Sony have fantastic first part support for their games; Naughty Dog, Media Molecule, FROM Software, take your pick.

I'm going to give my ranking of the major companies with explanations for their positions.

1. Nintendo: Nintendo's accomplishments are numerous. They revitalized and stabilized the industry after the Great Video Game Crash of1983, created a number of systems with legendary libraries including the NES, SNES, and Gamecube, and have been by far the most willing to innovate when it comes to console technology. They're not spotless though as their zaibatsu mentality has been the bane of their existence for the last four generations by among other things pissing off third party developers and ensuring they are unlikely to be the number one console company in market share in most of the recent generations.

2. Sony: Close on Nintendo's heels is Sony. They not only proved that you could enter and thrive in the console market if you had a good idea and decent business sense, they were until this latest generation the paragons of backwards compatibility as well as being the company to leverage the third party support to fill their consoles with a number of great exclusives. Having the best selling console of all time doesn't hurt either. Their arrogance however has been their greatest weakness and bitten them in the ass the last two generations.

3. Microsoft: Microsoft provided one thing that the industry sorely needed that being a western made platform that provided a welcome environment for western developers and their games. Microsoft has been exceedingly arrogant before though they have made steps to try and correct these errors in judgement.

4. SNK: Not many people know SNK makes their own consoles. These consoles are usually well made and tailored to work wonderfully with SNK's library. Unfortunately this means they are very much a niche developer and a recent debacle involving third party manufacturing ensured their latest console was a cheaply built mess.

5. Sega: Sega's war with Nintendo is legendary and they do have an impressive library of games to support their consoles. Unfortunately past the Genesis era every console they made had a major manufacturing defect or was subjected to an utterly stupid marketing plan that ensured the console would die sooner rather than later.

6. Atari: Atari was the king of the second generation however their massive arrogance, poor money management, and lack of standards in regards to what could be created for their consoles is what caused the crash of 1983. They have since become a gutted shadow of their former self as a third party developer.

7. The others: Companies like Magnavox, Phillips, Apple (They had the Pippin), etc are mostly forgettable due to their belly flop failures in the market.

I liked the SNES better than the NES in terms of library. The NES is good to me but SNES is godly.

Nintendo.

The very first console I ever played was the Game Cube that my Grandma kept at her house for whenever we visited. The very first game I played was Super Smash Bros. Melee. I always remember playing as Fox, Samus,Yoshi, Captain Falcon, and Donkey Kong. My 2nd favorite game was Super Monkey Ball.

a few years later, I remember the Wii came out. one time, we visited a family friend's and we played Wii Sports with them. I was so amazed because I had never experienced anything like it before! A couple years later, my brother and I saved our Christmas money and my dad helped us buy a Wii from Sam's club. It was the Bundle of Wii Sports, Super Mario Galaxy, and Super Smash Bros. Brawl. My brother and I were huge fans of SSBB, and my sister and I always played Super Mario Galaxy. I remember raging at "Sweet Sweet Galaxy" for the longest time, until I watched a walk through video. My two all-time favorite games were "Naruto: Clash of Ninja Revolution 2", and Wii Sports Resort.

Sadly, some point in time, My Wii had to visit the Nintendo factory in the sky, because the track that moved the optical reader got stuck. I never finished Subspace Emissary on SSBB, and never finish the "Bedroom" part of the observatory in Super Mario Galaxy.

Why everyone like Nintendo? I am fan of Nintendo. I only played any platforms such as Sony's PlayStation, Microsoft's Xbox, PC, and the others beside Nintendo. I picked both Nintendo and Sony.
