Is Morrowind worth playing?

I started playing Elder Scrolls games after Oblivion came out, so I never really played Morrowind. However, since I've never played it before, I'd imagine it would be something fairly new and exciting. I'm wondering if it is worth it or not.

Morrowind is possibly the best in the series in all but 2 departments:

1) Graphics. I think it may have been an xbox 1 initial release and the graphics are low by today's standards.

2) bugs. Morrowind has some pretty bad bugs here and there. The "redoran" compound had a 50% crash rate for me when I was playing fighters guild.

3) mechanics: the gameplay is different from the later iterations by a little bit.

That said I loved the game soo much. It had so much character! Great characters, plots, (forgot the name) demigod quests etc etc. The maps have way more character than later versions.

I recommend 11/10 110% do it, do it, do it, do it!! !

I forget where, but there are forums on the Elder Scrolls, and the GOTY edition of Morrowind coupled with many post-release patches and mods can "dress up" the game nicely so it's not so horrid to play.

I would recommend it, it is alot of fun!

Plus, it's the last game in the elder scrolls series that had levitation! You can fly around like superman!

Def get the HD graphics mods.

even without mods the atmosphere and setting makes oblivion and skyrim worlds look sterile

You can do silly exploits like jump and run around everywhere to level up bit the game does have a slightly more complicated rpg syatem. E.g. it models two layers of clothing

The writing was good, I thought. (which is fortunate because there isn't any voice acting)

oh, also if you havent before read the books. Some of them are really really awesome. Especially books that give skills, they put extra effort into those ones.

check out the skyrim mod "SkyWind" and "Skyblivion". The developers of those mods are creating the whole of both games from scratch as mods for skyrim and are including both updated graphics and an updated (less buggy) engine in the mix (you know... considering that it's gonna be both games just in the skyrim engine... oh, and you can walk to between the areas in tamriel (ie: Cyrodil to Skyrim, over to Morrowind and pop back to Cyrodil if you so please))

I started playing Morrowind this evening using the Morrowind Overhaul mod from Ornitocopter. So much awesome! The graphics now look more like Oblivion's, and some bug fixes and tweaks have been added to improve gameplay.

Morrowind is one of the best WRPGs ever made, so yes. I still have this crazy nostalgia for when it came out, I remember saving up to try to get the best Nvidia card on the market in 2002, PC Gamer's Greg Vederman did the Morrowind review and with that card, he said it got 20 FPS, which was about the best people were running a game of that scale in 2002! I remember how gorgeous it was and how I ran out to Wal-Mart to buy it on release day. I think I waltzed into Seyda Neen and tried to imagine how cool it would be if the game was an MMORPG, but I realize now it would never have worked, that game had a perfect feel to it as a single player game.

If I could jump in a magic portal and pop out in a fantasy world, I'd either pick Morrowind or one of the Ultima games, so much fun exploring games like Morrowind and Ultima 8, they are truly masterpiece games. I can not wait for Shroud of the Avatar!
