There's no play like it! appears in all new 2DS and 3DS ads going forward.
It is expected to be the NX slogan going forward...

So far the response from gamers have been mixed...

No one seems to have told Nintendo that the best part of saying "There's no place like it" is the "slike" part of it. Removing the "s" sound just creates dissonance in the head.

Personally, I stopped caring about video games years ago when I realized I could be doing more productive things with my time.

Bah, productive. I'll never understand why people say that one every now and then.

I've had people say that to me, but what the hell could I even do, in the traditional sense of "productive"? AKA, a mandatory "job". Go stand there as a damn cashier at the nightmarish Walmart, getting yelled at by idiot customers for no reason? Not to mention taking up a job slot that I dont actually need and someone else could use. I have a very hard time seeing that as "productive".

And I've noticed that people I know IRL that say that tend to then just spend their own time drinking (not all of them) and watching TV (every single one of them). At least, the people I know anyway; this obviously doesnt apply to everyone, but it DOES apply to everyone that's said it to me IRL. When they have free time, it's not used for anything that even requires mental effort.

Besides, there's no physical law or something that says that gaming cant lead to something productive or useful. Aside from having met all of my lasting friends through gaming, I now do testing (and I mean REAL testing, not the "just play it for fun" sort that most people think testing is) for indie developers to help make their games better, thus helping them sell better, thus benefiting them in their work. I've ended up also being contracted by them to help in design a couple of times, and now also moderate their forums. Gaming, and gaming alone, led to this, and it sure as hell aint just me that it's happened to. It's also sure as hell way more "productive" than any blasted JOB I could get.

I always wish people would drop their damn misconceptions about stuff like this. MANY hobbies can take you to very interesting places.... if you bloody well LET them.

There, minor rant over. That particular line from absolutely anyone always gets me fired up.

I get what they're going for, but it just sounds like Engrish to me.

Maybe they should shorten it to "Enjoy play!" ;)

I'm not a native English speaker myself and even to me this doesn't sound like proper English... Just weird.

I didn't say having a job you don't like is productive. I don't have a job myself, but all I'm doing is learning and reading and practicing music and getting my farm together. When I get a job, it's definitely not going to be something I don't like. And having a job isn't always productive, but the money gained from working can be used to buy materials used for productive means (like computer stuff and music gear).

I too dislike when people waste their times watching pointless television and get drunk. And it doesn't give you a reason to say "they're not productive, so I don't have to be either". It should give you all the more reason to do productive things. Video games don't really have much value beyond entertainment (distraction). Puzzle games and games about historical events have more value than just that. Then there's games that give an experience like no other does. For that reason, I would recommend Shadow of the Colossus to anyone that also thinks video games are a waste of time.

And honestly, I wouldn't call video game testing productive, as all it does is eventually create and release yet another game that someone will devote their time to. These are my views, and I would like to read your opposition.

Video games give the mind and reflexes exercise. For someone like me and my nephew, who have disabling dyspraxia, you see improvement of motor function very quickly. Consoles aren't installed in some hospitals for nothing. They greatly improve some people's condition. For this reason many doctors recommend some video games.
And some games are especially made to improve the player's logic (Portal is just one of many examples).
Video games are even suspected to significantly increase IQ.
They definitely aren't a waste of time, as long as you choose them well and don't get addicted to them. There's just a difference between playing too much and just playing.

Why should I care about some slogan? It's the games I care about.

I've always hated it when a company's slogan changes. It always seems to happen just when I get used to the old one, and it's their pitiful attempt at staying "fresh".

Now I'm curious. Do you also consider game development to be unproductive?

On topic: That slogan's a bit dumb. Nice little animation though.
