Hey, are there any Dark Souls 3 players on here? I play on PS4 under the moniker WarbornUK I've really enjoyed the PVE experience the game has offered so far, though I'm disappointed with the PVP and some mechanics of the game and the general bugginess of the release.
How is everyone else finding it? What's your build like? Who were your favourite bosses?

They're kind of one of those things that you have to get used to about it before you play, but I can understand that as a fair criticism. Is Monster Hunter any good?

Monster Hunter is pretty good but it depends on what you want out of it. My biggest issue with THAT game is that some content (mostly late-game stuff) is completely impossible to complete without a group no matter how skilled you are; like, you wont be able to deal enough damage to a boss (and MOST of the game is boss fights, it's what it's about) in the usual 45-minute time limit to take it down without a team. So those players that dont know anyone that's interested, well... nothing much they can do. Though recent games let you go online apparently. But of course playing with randoms has it's own problems.
...also you have to be willing to tolerate the potion animation. Anyone that's played it at all or even seen it much knows what I mean. It's a dumb way to die, I tell ya that...

I suppose it's a similar thing to Dark Souls 2 then, man the health potion animation on that was so punishable in PVP, I almost miss it a little bit.
It does sound good and I love a good boss romp, but I don't like being forced to co-op; I like playing with friends but I've always preferred finishing games solo to start with, so I find that a bit disappointing to hear. I'd enjoy giving it a go though, what platform is it on?

The current games are on the 3DS.
Used to be for PSP and then they jumped ship for Nintendo at one point for... some reason, heck if I know why. Probably just because it's the more popular handheld. It's been on consoles before too but it never does as well there, which makes sense, it's nowhere near as easy to set up multiplayer between friends with consoles when with handhelds you can all just gather in the same room.
It's a good series but beware the learning curve. It's one of those games that wont hesitate to stomp you into the floor over and over and there's alot to learn.

Yeah, I have been playing Dark Souls 3 on Xbox One. I got into playing Dark Souls earlier this year, starting with the first, and finishing the second the night before 3 came out. You really have to make yourself good, the best example I can think of was facing off against Sif where I had to stop pretending I am watching what the enemy is doing, and learn the little call signs of what he is about to do and act accordingly. It is a difficult thing to accomplish, but it is not impossible, and when you get past something it feels pretty amazing, like shouting at the TV that you just schooled someone hard.
Had a few of those in the game recently, a dual wielding priest and Sulyvahn Beasts are the worst, But I learned their moves and their openings and beat them. Been going for dex build where I have ended up using heavier armours, currently liking the fire witch set, and the Great Scythe is something I like for its range, sweeping, and power. I did have to lower my weight for the above enemies though. As a side I like to also add in some faith for extra healing, and can’t go wrong with a pyromancy flame with a fireball for general versatility. I probably rely on a shield more than I should without really being able to do counters.
For a favourite boss, I think I liked Abyss Watchers, I actually beat it first time with summoning an extra player, but it still felt fun. He was not too hard, but it felt like a cool fight where I was able to try and predict what he was about to do and manage accordingly. Least favourite has been Old Demon King so far, that guy was brutal and took everything hard about those demon enemies and made it slimmer.
The “get good” moniker is not exactly helpful, but there is some truth to it. Like Black Knights used to be pretty tough opponents, but after going so far in the games I can beat them pretty easily with some experienced backstabs.

I have only been playing for thirteen hours and have great difficulty getting a good enough internet connection to interact with other players beyond reading their messages. That is especially annoying since I am a sun-bro and we thrive jolly multiplayer cooperation. I have also only fought four bosses, but they were all awesome and challenging. I also love the gameplay and enemies I have been presented with, the undead harpy creatures in the crucifixion forest are wonderfully difficult and disturbing. My favorite boos so far is the giant curse tree which I managed to defeat on my own without help. This is shaping up to be better then dark souls 2 which, while it was a good game, could not live up to the reputation of the first. This one is so far.

Learning curve is fine, I got stomped a lot on Dark Souls and Bloodborne the first few runs so that's good. I was thinking of grabbing a 3DS soon as I've got a flight over to America coming up and I thought it might be nice to play some Pokemon or something on the way over.
@Bradleigh, it's a shame you're on XB1! If you were on PS4 I would happily engage in some jolly co-operation with you \[T]/ I really liked the Abyss Watchers, it feels like you're on an even footing at first which is deceptive; because the 2nd phase is ruthless! It's a great fight though. My favourite to do is probably Sulyvahn, it's an epic battle and a great soundtrack to match. In terms of difficulty, Nameless King, my word he ruined me
@Drone232 I really liked Dark Souls 2 because I'm a PVP player and was a big fan of duelling and invading on that game, but I agree that the PVE aspects were very disappointing compared to 1! I do like Dark Souls 3, it needs a bugfix though! Desperately. The Curse-rotted greatwood is a decent boss aye, bit finicky for my tastes but I'm glad you're enjoying it!

Hm, MH's learning curve is a bit different from that of Dark Souls.
Dark Souls is mostly about learning/memorizing enemy patterns in alot of ways; I always equate it to the very first Castlevania in that respect (I should point out that while I didnt want to deal with 3's damn controls I still have played this series before and Demon's Souls before it, though I wouldnt go back to any of them now). Like Castlevania most things are only hard until you understand what they do, they never really vary things up at all and all you have to do is keep attacking at the right time and remember what attacks each enemy is going to do.
MH is... well, memorizing boss attacks and stuff wont save you in that one (and bosses hitting you does way more than just mere damage in most cases in that game, such as sending you skidding across the floor for like a full 4 seconds) but it's also about the sheer complexity of it. If you're JUST trying to attack a boss like in other games, you'll just die alot. You have to know what to do with all of the items that are meant to aid in the hunting and fighting (for example, paintballs used to track the boss, as they DO NOT just stay in one area but will retreat and move to other zones; take too long to find them, and they'll get a bunch of their HP back) or things like traps and other funky stuff. The complexity with items, crafting, elements, and stuff like that is part of what makes the game so confusing to new players. It *really* helps to look things up in a wiki for the game and such (for example, to see what each monster is vulnerable against, as there's no way to tell otherwise yet those vulnerabilities are very important... this is kinda an annoying bit of the game honestly). And then you have to deal with the maps themselves; not all missions are boss-hunt missions, some are more about supply gathering, which is never as simple as it sounds and getting some items is a monstrous pain in the butt (goddamn Vespoids; it's not that those stupid bugs are really dangerous, but, well... you'll see what I mean if you try to get a carapace or something from them).
It ends up being one of those games that I recommend to people as a whole, but I usually tell them to watch a video or two just to see some gameplay examples before making a decision on it.

Those crow enemies, called Corvian, are ruthless. They pretty much acted as a full block to me, I could not rely on my shield to defend against them because their combos can break through and deal heavy damage, changing how they are addressed as killing them quickly and hopefully before their wings come out. I might have liked the tree, but after getting stomped from a first attempt I came back with help, felt needed because he summons enemies, the help kind of did most of the damage while I was trying to understand the weaknesses still.
Well I only just beat Pontiff Sulyvahn before exploring the area afterwards and fighting two Sulyvahn's beasts. Tough for me because they hit hard and wide which makes blocking not as useful. Sure the Pontiff Sulyvahn is cool and all, but your really need to learn when and where to dodge, and although tempting to say just kill his copy quickly it actually becomes more of an act of using it to predict the original's movements. I did like Abyss Watchers because it did feel like he is not too different from me, that there was multiple enemies felt like it was worth bringing someone else in, it was a cool moment when suddenly his form changed it became quite exhilarating in figuring out how he worked and adapting.
