Controller. Since I dont do FPS games mostly, keyboard and mouse are useless for nearly all of the sorts of games I *do* play (I dont do AAA major games either, usually). If a game doesnt support the controller? I'll force it to do so anyway. Even something like Minecraft on the PC, I use a controller for it, despite it lacking support for one.

Only with things like strategy games do I use the keyboard/mouse.

Since i mainly play strategy or RPG/adventure games, it's mouse for me.
A controller is simply useless for strategy games, and it can't match the precision of a mouse.
Also, the fact that with a k+m has nearly 10 buttons in reach without releasing the primary controls makes it preferable to a controller, to me.

You should get a Steam Controller - very convenient for m&kb-only games. :D

I don't really get what this poll is asking. I just use whatever's best for the game, and that depends on the particular game. If I'm playing Civ V, I'm going to be using a keyboard and mouse. If I'm playing Dark Souls, I'll use a gamepad. If I'm playing Elite Dangerous, I'll use my HOTAS. Whatever is best for the particular task.

I accidentally voted for "mouse and keyboard" without thinking it over first =|
I'm going to assume the poll was aimed at FPS games, because it wouldn't make much sense for most other genres. Obviously, you're not going to play Warcraft II with a gamepad, and you're not going to play Super Mario Bros. with a mouse.

Depends, if I am playing something like TF2 or Terraria then definitely keyboard and mouse, but if I play something like Jet Set Radio or any driving game (except for GTA San Andreas) I use a PS3 controller. Though I find I am actually better at playing some platformers on the keyboard rather than a controller. Like for example, Cat Mario or Sonic CD.

It depends on what kind of game I'm playing. Obviously I'll use the keyboard/mouse if I'm playing an FPS, but if I'm playing something like Tomb Raider, I prefer to use a controller.

When I'm not playing a moba or a browser game, I prefer joypads. Otherwise, mouse and keyboard is better for me.

I grew up pretty much on PC Doom and the keyboard was the preferred method of control, of course because there was dedicated buttons for which direction to go

You know, I will say one thing about using keyboard/mouse:

It DOESNT INVOLVE GODDAMN MICROSOFT OR SONY CONTROLLERS.

Seriously, that's the number 1 thing I hate about using controllers; they're usually made by the "big guys" (because controllers of any other sort tend to have 10000 compatibility issues with all sorts of games). And the big guys like to skimp on quality. There's no point in even using Xbox ones, which are so fantastically awful that I have, OFTEN, hit "up" on the dpad to have it register as "down" (how the hell do you screw up a controller THAT badly???). It's why I barely ever touch my useless 360 despite having a ton of very expensive import games for it, as I just dont want to deal with the nightmare controller from Hell. Come to think of it, I have no idea where that console even is and havent seen it for months.... and dont care enough to look for it.

But then.... there's Sony's controllers.

Oh, they're accurate enough.

....and made entirely of garbage, failure, and tragedy. I get the idea that Sony makes shoddy devices. After having gone through TEN PS2s over the years (no, seriously, TEN of the idiotic things) and some unholy number of controllers, I get the damn idea. But you'd think that at least SOMETIMES they could improve the build quality of these craptastic things. I mean, really, I go through these things like candy. Even when I'm careful with them. Just bought one a couple of weeks ago, to replace trashy-piece-o-crap #5928567204, and I'm already seeing signs of failure. I've been careful up till now but at this point I"m about ready to buy one JUST to run it over with the car for the sheer satisfaction of doing so.

Really, I cant properly convey my level of hatred for these junk heaps.

But my keyboard/mouse? Bloody perfect. Utterly useless for many games I play, but still perfect.

Get a Logitech.
The only compatibility issue you'll have is that some newer games require x360ce.

I can second this. I have a rather old Logitech gamepad that has the same button layout as a PlayStation controller, and I've had next to no issues with it. It even works perfectly on my PS3. Not my PS4 though, sadly.

I play with what the developers had in mind when they made game. I even play FPS with controllers if the game was obviously made for it. Skyrim and Borderlands are examples of FPS games that feel made for controllers to me. Grand Theft Auto and Resident Evil scream controller too. Really only games like Minecraft and Terraria cry out for keyboard and mouse to me.

Primarily mouse and keyboard, but sometimes a controller, or keyboard alone, depending on the game.
