"Strongly implied in A Better World that she's somewhere on the autistic spectrum. She shows a number of traits associated with autism, such as savant-like tendencies (Vishkar Corporation noticed this at a young age, hence why they took her in), trouble socializing with people, dislike of large crowds, an obsession with structured environments (i.e. her obsession with order), and inability to empathize (why she can't understand the protesters being against Vishkar's operations)."

It's a pity she's not very fun to play compared to any of the other supports. Effective on certain maps and objectives, but has a fairly passive type of play compared to all the other supports. IMO they should make her abilities more active, ie. make it so shields are a lot stronger, but only last a few seconds. That might be too much like Zarya's shields though. You could make it so that it's a healing shield, so it causes a heal over time that stops if the shield is broken, and breaks once the player's health is full. That would make it incredibly useful for saving someone at low health, but ineffective for anyone at full health.

You could give her the ability to create hard light shielding for cover, like a static Reinhardt shield. Or give her the ability to encase a friendly or enemy in hard light, putting them in stasis for a few seconds unable to attack but also unable to be damaged. You could use it on friendlies to save them, or enemies for crowd control.

Right now you put your turrets down and let them do their thing, and put your shields on everyone. There's decision making in where to initially put your turrets, but other than that there's no thought into who to put shields on - you just put them on everyone. It might as well be a passive ability in its current form.

Symmetra is hands down the easiest character to counter. Winston's arc gun absolutely demolishes her sentry turrets and any hitscan character can destroy her in a 1v1 fight.
