Those with Android and iOS phones meeting the minimum requirements can download Pokemon Go today.

It has been active in North America for about 1 hour now.
The app/game is live in Oceania, Japan, SE Asia, and NA now.

EU, Chinese, and SA releases are coming with no date yet...

The app/game is free to download and play...

You need to be level 5 before you can enter a gym.

The 3 gym teams are Red (Moltres), Blue (Articuno), and Yellow (Zapdos)

How to play?

You get Experience Points for catching Pokemon...
You get Candies of that Pokemon you caught... You need Eevee Candies to level up/evolve Eevees, Chansey Candies for Chansey etc... But you must transfer them to the Professor to get the candy, though you give up the Pokemon to do so.
You can only battle in gyms at the moment, where you win coins and stuff.
You get eggs, pokeballs, and other stuff at Pokestops.
Eggs must be put in to the incubator then walk the necessary amount of steps for it to hatch.

To catch you need to wait for the green circle to be as small as possible when throwing Pokeballs to get the best chance.

Only Gen 1 Pokemon now...

Trading does not exist yet and will come later as will the other generations of Pokemon.

FYI: you must keep the app open while walking/moving to use it.
You cannot go over a certain speed limit before the game quits working..
5 minutes before standard pokeballs are refilled

You can get all the items in the game, but if your impatient and/or full of money, you can buy most of it via microtransactions.

Right now I caught 4 Pokemon, I chose Squirtle as my starter (Gen 1 starters only).
I also caught 2 pidgeys and transferred the lower state one for candy.
I also visited a Pokestop and gained an egg and 3 pokeballs.
I also caught a Ratta and Venonant

I caught 3 other Pokemon, but I lost them due to the app glitching (this is due to heavy server traffic at the moment).

If you live in Metro Detroit I am XenoCI (The name I wanted was taken).

It looks similar to Ingress, which I never liked mostly because there were never any POIs anywhere near where I live. I wonder if it is pulling the same location data for POIs. The only time I was ever able to find any nearby POIs in Ingress was when I occasionally made a trip to Sydney.

It's mostly the same points, but Pokemon appear anywhere literally.

The Pokestops (POIs) give you Pokeballs and items.
The Gyms give you points and coins (coins if you control that gym each day).

You also get items and Pokeballs for leveling up.

EXP is gained by capturing Pokemon (depends on Pokemon and Ball bonuses), hatching Pokemon (lots) evolving Pokemon (lots) visiting Pokemon Stops (50 EXP) and battling in Gyms.

I'm almost to level 7 and have Gym down the road.

FYI the Pokemon Go Plus device is sold out on Amazon at the moment.

Do you have to be next to the gym to enter? I'm not leveled up yet, but from my house two gyms are visible on the map and I was wondering if I can play without going physically to them. For my convenience there is a pokestop available from my bedroom.

Looks like it won't be coming to Windows Phone, so I'll be missing out.

For my phone you have to turn off the AR feature because it is not compatable. But everything else works good except when it says there are served issues.

You know that circle that pulsates around your trainer?
Pokestops and Gyms must be in that circle to access them.

Today I conquered a Yellow Gym turning it Blue!

I live in Arizona and walking outside during the day is suicidal... 115 degrees on average. so you can assume I do a lot of my capturing at night. I only have a squirtle and a few lower level pokemon right now.

The post is so close I got it when I'm my house. The closest gym is a block from here. But I find the pokemon encounter rate is pretty low when I'm the house. Haven't left my house yet and almost to lv. 5.

Why is Eevee so common and it seems easy to catch?

Everyones playing this game it seems like, or at least wants to try it out.

It depends on where you live and natural surroundings when it comes to what Pokemon appear.

Eevees are rare for me.

But I easily get Pidgeys, Ratattas, Weedles (I live near some thickets and a marsh here in Metro Detroit).

If I go a block in any directions I can get Eevees, Spearrows, Drowzess, Vulpixs, Nidorans (both sexes) and few others.

I've also gotten Ghastly and a Meowth using inscents.

I hatched a few eggs with my 5km one giving me a Starmie and 20 candies

When eggs hatch they can give you up to 30 candies, though it's random.

The game is highly popular across the board in the countries it is in.
It's also the #1 grossing App on iTunes USA.

If you can use it, you should try it

I just wish I could hold on to a gym...

I'm guessing that the different colored areas are different habitats? I'm in a light green.area, the park a couple blocks away is dark green...

The two gyms I see near me, I've watched turn all sorts of colors.

Oh. And I tried to describe this to my husband and he busted out laughing...

IT FREAKING RULES, IT'S SO AWESOME TO BE A REAL POKEMON TRAINER THE GAME IS PERFECT

*sigh* You know how Eevee is one of my favorites? Theres one three footprints away, but I need to wait until dad gets up to go catch it... And I dont wanna lose it because it's rare. Hope the lil' guy will stay put for me.
