http://www.nintendo.com/nes-classic - The NES is back!

That's right, Nintendo is taking you back in time with a new version of the NES; it's smaller, and has 30 games built in. You can connect it to your TV via a HDMI cable, and it also includes a controller designed to work just like the iconic rectangular NES gamepad. (The new controller will also connect to a Wii Remote, so that you can use it to play Virtual Console games on a Wii or Wii U.)

In addition to HDMI support and a lack of cartridges, the new mini-console also features one useful modern convenience: multiple suspend points, so that you won't have to fumble around with passwords when you start playing a game again. The NES Classic Edition will be available on November 11th for US$59.99.

I personally cannot wait to get ahold of one of these babies, the NES was and still is my favorite gaming system of all time! It evokes times when video gaming was purely for fun. :D

I really want it. I hope it does well- to show Nintendo (and other companies) that retro is still alive!

For the most part- old games are ignored because mainstream gaming is e-sports, fancy big budget games (that are super short) and so on. Nintendo's Virtual Console service is fine and all- but way too limited. Same goes for Sony's PlayStation network that has classics... but PS1 stuff is only downloadable on PS3 (not PS4). I don't follow Microsoft stuff much, but they did have Rare Replay on Xbox One which looked pretty cool. Nearly all old Rare games on a collection.

From what I've heard so far about the NES mini- sadly it will only be the 30 games. Not sure why they chose that number, when old games take up so little space.. they could've added more. Perhaps if it does really well, they will do another NES mini in the future.

I'm excited for it, myself. The selection of games could've been bigger, and there are some curious omissions, but I still like the overall concept. Plus, it just happens to have a few of my favorites on it.

I plan on buying this so I'll have a legal way to play these games.

I wonder if it has actual NES hardware inside or if it's just an emulation running on an ARM processor.

It has save states so I am thinking emulation but I heard it has native parts so I don't know. If its native its got to have some upgrades to the memory side of things to allow for save states.

It has an HDMI output so I'd be very surprised if it were just a simple NOAC.

Interesting thing, that.

I'm just going to skip this one though. Have all the original cartridges, also have emulators for them. Not much reason to buy that.

The Wii-style controller connector and the ability to have save states also makes me think it's not a real NES, though it's certainly possible to make those hardware interfaces for a NES-on-a-chip.

Save states are for wusses! These games weren't meant for you to save right before a boss battle and be able to reset like nothing ever happened.

The point of save states in this case is so you dont have to deal with irritating passwords.

Those things were freaking torture, back then. Bloody Metroid and it's stupid codes, get ONE damn letter/number wrong and there goes all of your progress. Those codes were LONG.

Not to mention just being able to save & exit and come back later in games that previously did not allow this.

Just because a feature is there doesn't mean you have to use it, I wonder if the passwords still work on this console. You might be able to satisfy both the purist and the more casual gamer.

This is cool. Buying this will be worth it for Super Mario Brothers 3 alone.

I hope that in the future they'll offer more games, focusing on translating games that never came over the English speaking world. There's loads of those translated by fans, Nintendo should buy, or just claim, fan translations of those games and sell them.

Sega has been doing this sort of plug-in-play thing for a few years now. I've got a Game Gear clone that I can plug into my TV, and I've seen a Sega Genesis Clone with loads of games preinstalled. Good stuff.

I might be interested in this if I didn't buy a duel system when my Supper Nintendo cr@pped out that also plays NES games. I bought the system & some NES games on eBay.
