my favourite is Advanced warfare best map is atlas gorge imo. Don't really like black ops 3 think the superpowers like gravity spikes and war machine are too much.i think its harder to get more kills in bo3

Well I've only played CoD Finest Hour so far, so by default that has to be my favourite. And, to its credit, it was very enjoyable, apart from the poor use made of checkpoints.

From the reviews I've read, CoD 2 on the PC and the Xbox 360 sounds an awesome game, and I'm looking forward to playing it.

I gave up on the franchise once I experienced the abomination that is "Ghosts".

They are blatant propaganda games too. Remember the name of the villain in COD4: Modern Warfare?

I liked COD4 and MW2 though. Black Ops 1 and 2 were pretty good as well.

The problem with COD is the same as Bethesda games: they've been using the same old engine all along, just added little eye candy to it, because they're too greedy to purchase licence for a modern engine. They want all the money for themselves, so they just add a nice graphical "coating" to it and pretend it's "next gen"

The reason why all COD games basically "feel" the same is that they're all based on the Quake 3 engine. It's an engine from 1999.

That's why most people prefer Battlefield now. The frostbite engine has its problems, and lots of them, but at least the developers get the newest version of the engine, up to date with modern infrastructure, instead of just tinkering on the old, tired, outdated engine from before the millennium.

If I had to pick one favorite, it'd have to be COD4.

MW3 and BO1 were fine. They pushed the limit too far in the games that came out after.

Burn Call of Duty with fire, they suck, modern warfare series was decent but they sold out and are just re-releasing the same crap now over and over again

I actually did not believe this but its true, I looked it up. I had no idea id Tech 3 could look so good with modifications.

Yes, but it's all a pretty coating. The mechanics and feel is still the same. It's inherent to the Quake 3 engine. It's in the engine infrastructure itself.

That's why they had to try to trick people with all these new gameplay additions like wall jumping etcetra, because there are only so many times you can sell the same Quake 3 game with a military theme before you have to radically confuse the player with such mechanics, to make them believe you have something new to offer.

They need to get a new, modern engine. Then they don't have to resort to these Titanfall/Deus Ex ripoffs to have an excuse to claim it's a new game. People want a modern era shooter, but they can't get away with more of those using the Quake 3 engine.

And they're too greedy to buy a new one.

It'll be interesting to see what they come up with next E3, since they've exhausted the futuristic theme now. Perhaps they finally give in and buy a new engine.

Same with the Bethesda "RPG" games. TES and Fallout. Since Oblivion, it's the same engine(Gamebryo engine in this case). That's why Skyrim and FO4 both have that "moon gravity" feel to them. This weird floating-above-the-ground feel. It's like the player and the other actors skate over the surface. And then you have those ugly, gray rocks that stick out like sore thumbs and don't properly mesh with the main terrain.

It's important to know when companies do this out of greed. Compromise in one area is a good indication that cashing in is so important they are willing to let the game suffer to earn those extra dollars. Not good.

Call of Duty 1 and 2 were outstanding in their day. COD 4 set the bar for console multiplayer. The franchise looks pretty bad now, though, COD4 was the last one I played.

I feel Call of Duty all plays the same. I haven't bothered to get the new ones because I already got modern warfare 1, 2 and 3. I mostly get the more experimental FPS games these days. I loved borderlands and destiny.

I don't like most of the games, I think the "hold still to regen health" mechanic is the worst, but I did enjoy Big Red One, by the same guys that did Return to Castle Wolfenstein.

They also did the United Offensive mission pack, which I haven't tried yet. I may have bought it once-upon-a Steam sale, but I can't remember...

What's wrong with the Q3 engine? That thing is solid, and I'm actually impressed with what they've done with it. Look at Valve, their Source engine still has huge chunks of Quake -1- engine.

I'm not sure how a different engine would benefit the series. I guess they could maybe switch to Unreal, but that would mostly be a "more eye candy" switch, and there are constant reports of poor customer support (and lawsuits, of course). Seems like it would be a bit of a financial risk for a series that relies on "keep releasing the same thing" to keep their sales high.

Black Ops 1 and 2 I enjoyed very much. I've only played a few games in the series (yet own the majority of them on PS3 and PS4), so I cannot say much outside of those two.

Overall, Black Ops 1 was my favorite. I really dug the 60s-80s Cold War theme, and the overall gameplay felt better than any of the other CoD games I played, aside from maybe MW2 the two times I played it.

Ha, I was looking through some boxes the other day, I forgot I had actually bought the first CoD from a thrift store (no expansion though). I assume that like other Q3 engine games, even if the CD key is already used, I can still play offline.

I used to play Quake 3 online with a copy I bought used from Ebay. Then again, the game was already nearly 10 years old at that point.

You might've gotten lucky with one that had an unused code. I'm pretty sure as long as you don't play the game online, the code is still good.
