Killing people in video games bothers me nowadays. Does anybody else feel this way?

I'm fine with killing in games but recently having a lot of trouble enjoying films and books where people die (tricky when you're a horror fan).

What's put you off it?

It just feels wrong to me, especially whenever the heroe gloats about it with sadistic glee. It makes me feel like I'm stepping into the shoes of a sociopath.

That's interesting, it must feel strange. I never feel that connected to the player character.

Edit: Just realised that's funny given the picture I chose as my avatar. It's from a film where someone plays a super-realistic game about commiting murder!

Well I pretty much play video games to escape into anothee world so...

The collecting of things like inventory items and skill points helps distract me from real life but also prevents me from enjoying the game's story ha ha! Much easier for me to escape into a film since I don't have any choice about what happens.

I used to love video games with a story, but now I find those stories to be so juvenile in comparison with truly great movies.

I think if I get back into playing video games I just wanna play retro classics like the ones for Sega.

Even when you kill people in those kinds of games it feels so cartoony that it can't be taken seriously.

I understand where you are coming from Twizty. I no longer have a games console. Yes, I loved playing them but I tended to spend so much time on them that I would have hardly anything else going on...

I had a slimline with a little Joytech bolt on screen. I liked playing Grand Tourismo 4 and Delta Force Black Hawk Down (Online) which I made it into the leader board several times because when one reaches a certain position for a certain length of time, the account gets blocked and one has to begin again with a new account. I was the top machinegunner several times. HAHA! It was fun. Then Team Sabre version came along with more detail, but it was less playable. Another ace online PS2 game was Battlefield 2. Oh that was fun!

I like the old pixel games for the Sega and Nintendo and such.

I saved and saved and bought an Atari 2600 when I was in my teens in the latter half of the 1980's. Those games were very playable.

I own a PS3 and a PS4 and they have some classic and retro style games availabe for these systems.

I bought my PS2 when PS3 came out as the prices had gone down a bit. PS3 was so expensive and the game prices were so high back then, I don't know how people could aford it. I had a good job back then and I thought twice and went for the PS2 instead. At least the games werw more reasonably priced. They were still not cheap though.

True, they are very expensive.

I once got a very quick go of GT5 on PS3 but as it was a quick go, I had no chance to try to keep up with the others and probably had a beginners car.

Most games I like have violence...but I certainly don't seek out the most violent games I can find. I play things like Skyrim and Dragon Age Inquisition, and there was a silly game called Deathspank I played through(that one was pretty cartoonish).

Also, literally the only new game I care about, is Elder Scrolls 6...I am hoping for 2020, but may not be done till 2021 as far as I know, problem is there is no set date for its release. Just have not heard of anything else very recent or soon to come out that has grabbed my attention, mostly because I haven't heard of any good fantasy ones(like that aren't turn based with anime style looking characters), its all gun wars, games that look like Halo or cowboys it seems.

I guess I am a little curious about the new devil may cry since I played the first two on PS2...but I don't like what I saw of the cut scenes I saw part of in the preview seemed like cringy anime(worse than I remember) but the game-play was fun so I may still give it a go.

Oh and almost forgot I picked up a disk of a game called Styx Shards of darkness...not a very new game but kinda fun, very hard and lots of sneaking is involved because you play as a sneaky goblin. Not a good game if you can't find it in you to laugh at the fact you've died 20 times just trying to sneak from one building to the other on easy difficulty. I cannot remember how far I've gotten since I last played, but I know its not very far.

It is a good thing that they are exceedingly optional, then. Also, there's been a nice upswing in decidedly non-violent video gamesin recent years, so that's lucky.
