Who here watched last night's direct? What were your favourite parts? I liked the Smash, Zelda, and Splatoon news!

I didn't watch the Direct when it came out, but I just watched the Skyward Sword trailer and I'm very hyped. I think the Joycon controls look fun and that the button controls seem good for people with coordination issues.

I have a Wii but I suck at motion controls. I might take a look at SS HD though seeing as buttons are available. I hope they turned down the handholding though...

I hope they turned that down, too. I think Nintendo has gotten a bit better at taking into account common criticisms when they remake their games (at least Zelda games), so hopefully they fixed more than just the control issue. I noticed they didn't touch on much else, but there is time until July for more info to come out. I'm also interested to see if they added/changed some dungeons and items like they did in WW HD and TP HD.

It's not Fi's fault. I love Fi, she's just doing her job. It's the meta role she plays that's the problem.

I like Fi, I totally lost her mind by her cameo in BotW. Probably too much to hope that something in the game could be relevant in BotW2, where Ganondorf could be freed from the curse of Demise, there has been a cute meme called Rehydrated Ganondorf. I will probably plan to get Skyward Sword HD, presumably Fi could be less intrusive with some of her notifications, maybe a cut down on one of the Demise fights by one time. And I will probably get the joycons they showed for the game, since mine drift quite a bit.

I am most excited for the game coming next year, Splatoon 3. I am not a huge multi-player guy, but I just love the charm of Splatoon. Also looks like the game is following New Horizon by removing gendered language and allowing hairstyle separate from the body style. I do wonder who will be the music group this time, which probably a little bit off. Pearl and Marina need to return in some way.

Same here! It's one of the games I can actually play and I'm in love with everything about it. And yes, we need a Pearl and Marina cameo! Wonder who the news anchors will be this game? I think their colours will be yellow and purple based on the colours we see on the battle lobby.

There is a bit of buzz that the colours of the logo; yellow, white purple and black, happens to be the colours of the non-binary flag.

For the presenters, I have put a lot of thought into before, like whether they should balance out the genders a little, since everyone up till now has been a woman, although the series in general had kind of set itself up as different in setting its female characters front and centre. With Octolings staying a part, it would also make sense to keep another Octoling member. I am really into the hip-hop aspect of Off the Hook, Nasty Majesty is legit one of my favourite songs that does not even have actual words, but there is a really cool English cover you can find on Youtube from a channel called octolinghacker. And listening to the music of the new trailer it had me thinking we might get a rock style anchors, maybe punk rock, to fit a style of the new game.

Also, it would seem that the apocalypse like setting of Splatoon 3 is decided by the last Splatfest, where Chaos won against Order.

Yeah, I think they'll have an Octo member still. It'd be interesting to see some male or maybe even NB rep in the anchors too! (Especially as they changed gender to style in customisation, eeee!)
Oh I LOVE Nasty Majesty and have watched that cover many times! 'Nasty! Nasty! Show them how you're classy! Nasty! Majesty! Win and take their pride!' It makes me feel very powerful and pumped up! Octolinghacker also did a very good Into the Light cover!
Oh this was ABSOLUTELY influenced by chaos v order, I have been deep into the Splatoon series since its conception and I was around - and took part in - the final Splatfest. The community went CRAZY over it and I did too! I picked order, but now I'm glad chaos won because we get such a cool, new, and unique setting! Plus salmon buddy! The salmonids were on the side of chaos after all... My plot senses are tingling!!
I know I'm rambling, I'm just so hyped!

Friendly Salmonids make me happy because I love the concept of old enemy groups becoming friends, and why I was so into the Octo Expansion. The feelings I put onto Nasty Majesty was that the song makes me think of Marina's Octo heritage, being a bit military but also rebellious, with Pearl acting as support to her best pal. Maybe I read it wrong, but I had thoughts about Marina being a bit insecure about herself, and the song is really strong in the face of that, like everyone needs a Pearl to say that they don't have to always care about what others think. Although maybe I just read too much into the Pearl and Marina Dynamic, I just hope the next ones match up in some way.

Although now I am imagining something like a third member of a Salmonid or drums or something.

There's really buried lore about Salmonids (and just about everything in the games) actually! I've been lore-hunting today you see. Check out a YouTuber named rassicas' video on Japanese translations of Salmonid lore they did! (And their Splatoon iceberg video too, long but great.) The new perspective you get on them is interesting.
Yeah I do see Marina as being a bit insecure. She picked team order to protect the stability in her life according to Nintendo. Also check the results dialogue for mushroom vs star. There could be a possible hint to something in the story related to Marina's insecurities there... although we don't really know yet.
I also loved Octo Expansion. Its view of breaking free of a bad system which could potentially damage you horrifically (twice: Octarians and Tartar) really resonated with me for multiple reasons, especially once I looked back after realising I was NB.
