As a nintendo fan, I'm pretty excited. The console is more of the same, but still excited for the new 1st party titles. Mario, Pokemon, Smash, Zelda, Kirby, Mario Kart 9, heck a new DKC. The switch proved that Nintendo can still remain relevant in the console gaming space post-wii. The Wii U was definitely a nice reminder that even great companies can have failed products just like how legendary actors can have bad movies.
Nintendo played it safe by not relying on a gimmicky name which is nice considering how the name wii u caused a lot of confusion, and by 2012 many consumers who fell in love with the wii had moved on to mobile gaming. Causal consumers did get to enjoy the switch but it was after Nintendo brought back thier long time fans who felt abandoned by nintendo for more convential, flasher, and m-rated gaming experiences. Being a hybrid console was genius, but many still felt skeptical considering that handheld gaming in the West isn't as popular with adult gamers in the West as it is in Japan. Children are prime consumers for Nintendo handheld, but even they have more options now with smartphones and tablets.
Good games plus a convential gimmick is why the switch 1 did so well. The Switch 2 just need to capitalize on the foundation the Switch 1 already establish and it could easily be another 100 plus million seller. Iwata (rip) left us with a killer app that he never seen take off. People criticized him for being too blue ocean aka (relying heavily on simplifying games for a casual non gaming audience), but gimmicks can work if done right. It would be nice if they made another gamecube style console that was graphically on with The Ps5, but Nintendo is done with the power wars. It still will get 3rd party support, but mainly Japanese 3rd party.
