Has anyone heard of them being damaged by power surges/outages?

We had the power cut out twice really quickly, and now my brother's doesn't turn on. Doesn't smell burnt or anything, but everything that was connected to the same extension/surge protector does turn on.

Actually, I did a quick google search and there's a few instances of Wiis randomly not turning on anymore, for similar reasons. This won't end well... :?

Couldn't you return it to Nintendo for a new one?

If I weren't broke all the time, I would. Resetting it fixed it for now, but I have no idea why...

I've had problems with my Wii a few times but switching off the power at the main socket and then back on again always helps.

That's the only complaint I could level against the console though, and it rarely happens.

I've had to pull the plug more than once to get my Wii to reset. Also, I've seen one Wii that refused to work unless laying on its side. Worth a try...

I haven't really suffered from that problem. This mis because I normally switch the Wii off at the wall before I go to bed.

If it's still under warranty (I'm not too sure how long that really is, but registering can considerably lengthen it) then Nintendo should replace or repair it.
