Actually I am a fan of both of the games, though I personally like Tekken better.... Here is the skinny on both games:

Tekken- Has great characters, entertaining storylines, 30+ roster of combatants..... However it slightly lacks in graphics, often there is what I call over-selling moves (ie you do a light upper cut and your opponent gets knocked 47 ft into the air)...

Virtua Fighter- lacks interesting characters or storylines, has a very limited roster (less fighters), less moves per character than tekken, but it has far better graphics, far more real-time (can't kick someone in the air 7 times before they hit the the ground)....

Basically, what it boils down to is do you want better characters and storylines, or better game play? I vote better characters and storylines so I go with tekken.

I LOVE TEKKEN. I've tried Virtua Fighter once but there was nothing in it that held my interest. IMHO, Tekken is far more superior in every aspect. As far as graphics are concerned, VF's graphics do strike me as realistic, but there's just something very wonky about it... I can't quite put my finger on it exactly so maybe it's just the Tekken fangirl in me talking. :P

Heh, my best characters in tekken are baekdosa and eddie/christie (I prefer eddie to Christie, but eddie has to be unlocked on T5). Of coarse I play many different characters, I've got 2 stables even, one is the champions: Steve (cpt), bruce and ganryu (guards), and King and Marduk (enforcers), and the other is the black death squad (assassins): Raven (cpt), Brian, Nina, and Jack 5.

So far nobody has preferred VF, I chose tekken and so has everyone else here. I'm sure there are some though who would prefer VF, right?

Out of two I'd pick Tekken.

Simply because it's much easier for me to use the move set in that vs VF.

I've never played VF but quite like Tekken 5. The character I tend to pick most often is Yoshimitsu.

My brother's best character is Law. I play with him sometimes too though because I play a bunch of different characters, this makes it harder for my opponents to grab my number because whenever they think they've figured me out, I switch to someone else and apply a new strategy. And it makes the game more fun. I have tekken 5, but I am thinking about getting one of the new no-chip, $350-$400 PS3's so I can get tekken 6.
I've only played VF once, I played as some guy who was ripped off from Street Fighter's Ryu, but I do plan on getting the game and learning to play it more... The game play is superior to tekken's, but they severely lack in the characters/storylines dept.

I've kicked plenty of fanboy ass with Steve. 8) Unfortunately, my NT brother often challenges me with Christie, whose moves I can never seem to read no matter how hard I try. :( *must practice more*

I like Steve too...... I prefer eddie to christie, but I'm awesome with either of those and also Baekdosa.

Heh, you should see how I've got it set up.... Steve leads his own stable with bruce, ganryu, king, and marduk, I call them the Champions. I only have 2 stables though, if I could put tag teams in there Law and Paul would easily be a tag team (seeing as storyline wise they are best friends).

i never really liked either....that was about the time i was getting out of games and the boxy wireframes that they originally used for the character models also turned me off at the time.

but then again, i believe the purest fighting game is still the street fighter series so i must admit a small bias there.

Yeah, but personally I always thought Street Fighter was too cartoony for a fighting game, and I've never been much on people flying across the screen or shooting fire balls out of their hands.

With tekken, the fighting is realistic and authentic, the details down to their fighting styles are very accurate..... I loved mortal kombat, probably more than tekken but only because of the blood. If tekken put all that blood and fatality into their game I think they'd have Mortal Kombat beat.
