I always heard the Japanese song was called "Sonic Warrior" or "Toot Toot Sonic Warrior," but I could be wrong. Either way, that's the song I love the most, though I've heard Sonic Boom plenty of times and still love it.
Actually, I think it's kind of funny that I prefer the American in-game stage music to most of the Japanese stage music.
The American soundtrack is actually kind of good to me, as a fan of ambient stuff. I really like the US quartz quadrant music and whatever plays for Tidal Tempest, has a nice acid jazz thing going on with the voices (is that the right term? I've only listened to one acid jazz group). Metallic Madness sounds f***ing scary as hell in the US version too and actually gave me nightmares. Its so evil and diabolical and invokes lots images of a post-apocalyptic future that has been taken over by sentient machines, where everything green has been burned away. I also have to say the US Stardust Speedway is superior too, especially the bad future version. All the past and good future themes are the same as the Jap/EU version if I'm not mistaken.
With that said I still prefer the majority of Japanese tracks. Sonic Warrior is so bad yet good and catchy, Sonic Boom isn't a terrible song. I love Japanese Palmtree panic, the cheering part (YAY!! !) makes me think of a chorus of flickies cheering Sonic on and in the bad future version they're robotocized.
Yeah, I believe that most, if not all, of the past and future songs are the same.
That said, the rest ARE similar in a lot of areas to each other. The Japanese and American versions are different, sure, but if you listen closely, you can find some similarities and maybe some inspiration that lead to other songs.
