Hi.. Question??

Anyone ever have a problem with video games causing ticks?

My son loves his video games, but when he plays them too much, he gets an uncontrollable blinking tick.... anyone experience anything like that? or know of someone who has?

I stim often when I play games...I'll rock a lot, and when I was little I used to chew on the cords (kinda regret that). I'll hum the music (which got on mom's nerves quite often in the NES days).

Can't think of any tics I've had that were videogame specific. I get eye tics sometimes, but they're more related to the time of year, or fatigue.

SabbraCadabra - I thought about that as well, because it dosen't happen all the time, it just happened for about 2 weeks, and then it seemed to go away.. but I was worried, it was all day long, for a few days, and then got better, and was at night when he was tired. thanks.

I get uncontrollable blinking tics all the time. But personally, I highly doubt they're from video games 'cause I actually stare at the TV screen for a few minutes THEN I blink XD.

Looking at any kind of TV/Monitor for long periods causes you to blink less than normal while doing it, so the tick may be partly to do with that.

I get ticks quite a bit. Not sure whether they're to do with Video Games or not. Have you tried Rispiridone?

No, I've never given him medications. The ticks only lasted not more than 2 weeks and disappeared. If they were affecting his life, and hindering him, then I would take it into consideration.. but thankfully they went away.

these are the things they mention in the game instruction books as health warnings-it could be to do with photosensitivity,electrical activity,or because are blinking less when playing a game for long time,the eyes can start to tic.
the manuals say something like stop playing and see a doctor about the symptoms if get them whilst playing.


am do get eye twitching,but also have gotten other symptoms before,like convulsing,spasming,and getting sick.
usually when am playing them all day.

not to scare anyone, but game manuals do warn that games can cause seizures( in certain people) even small ones such as: altered vision, dizziness, eye or muscle twitches, loss of awareness, disorientation, any involuntary movements, or convulsions.

There's a lot more concentration involved in a video game than there is in normal TV.

eg:

Get someone to watch a scary movie with the lights out and then frighten ("boo") them.

Try the same trick after they've been playing an intense doom-style game with the lights out and speakers blaring for a few hours.


Jumpy movements are part of this extreme concentration.

Tics however may not be a good thing - and perhaps excessive concentration is causing a problem.

had that with tv programs when i was small
somehow it disappeared in time but sometimes i have some tikes like irradic movement of one hand in the air if i did something real good (in game)

I got something like a tick playing Kikaioh (an arcade mecha-fighting game). I played this game every morning before classes at the arcade near to high school, so I checked the time on my watch everytime I finished a battle in order to attend to my first class early. Time passed, and I checked my watch without any reason several times while playing any videogame, not only arcade games before school but also while playing PS2 in home. Now the "tick" disseapeared, something that help me was stop using a watch

Also, I remember my mom telling me when I was small that I blinked a lot of times. But I doubt videogames were the cause.
