ur prolly saying im insane, but listen. Boll makes his movies bad on purpose. why? because in Germany, large financial losses have great tax benifets. so thats y people invest and thats y he continues to make money. its a desiving yet genious plan. im not saying wat he does is nice but still, its smart.

That tax loophole doesn't exist anymore so Boll's not making films from it anymore.

I hate this man. Listen to him:

He really thinks he's the only genius in the industry. Wooow.

It gets better.

Michael Bay said in a forum, "I find people who rant like that - calling s**t about both me, and George Clooney - comes from someone screaming because he is not being heard. He is obviously a sad being.

When you ask "do I care"? Not in the slightest." The link is in the following video, which is Boll's response to what Bay said:

Wow, so he thinks it'll make him a better director if he beats him in a boxing match?
Michael Bay isn't very good, but Boll shouldn't complain about him having a bigger budget when Boll's "Dungeon Siege" was terrible and had a budget of $60 million, which is way more than most hollywood films. It didn't even LOOK good, didn't even have good visuals. What a little ass.

I'd say that Michael Bay's The Island is very good, even though most of his other movies (eg. Armageddon) are full of clichés.

Yeah, The Island was good, I agree. Even his worst films are better than Boll's best....

uwe boll is a horrible director but a great producer...all his movies come in under budget and make money. that's why he's still able to make movies today despite the sh*t-fests that he puts out.

Most of his movies are based on popular video games, and most people don't bother checking who the director actually is.

as much as i hate Uwe Boll (and i do) i have a sort of begrudging respect for him. his films always come in under budget and make a profit so that guarantees he'll be able to make more, he always gets great casts (well interesting ones), and his name is well known.

if only he made GOOD films i'm sure he'd be considered an autuer. but he doesn't. he makes horrible horrible films and he's a mad man who needs to be stopped.

I watched Alone in the Dark out of morbid curiosity, and quickly learned my lesson :x

I kind of want to see Postal, though...might be interesting to see what he does with something that's intentionally bad

And the game(s) already sucked, so he can't exactly ruin it

Actually, this Uwe Boll guy sounds more like Max Bialystock from The Producers... deliberately making it a total flop so that he can make a killing from the losses. At least Ed Wood's movies weren't intentionally bad.

I haven't seen any of Boll's movies, but from what I've heard, they're really bad. That's why I probably won't even bother to see the Far Cry movie when it comes out.

okay, here's what i got from Wikipedia:

"Boll is able to acquire funding thanks to German tax laws that reward investments in film. The law allows investors in German-owned films to write off 100% of their investment as a tax deduction; it also allows them to invest borrowed money and write off any fees associated with the loan. The investor is then only required to pay taxes on the profits made by the movie; if the movie loses money, the investor gets a tax writeoff.

While Boll has received a lot of negative publicity regarding this funding method, he was actually one of the few directors to use the tax shelter as intended. His films were financed, produced, and directed by a German company, which was the initial intention behind the tax shelter: to provide incentive for investment in German entertainment properties."

( LOL... it's always funny to hear Germans swear in English... )

You know, the more I learn about Uwe Boll, the more I'm intrigued (I'm still not sure if I want to risk watching any of his movies, though.) This guy appears to be some kind of crazy rebel. He could just be an attention whore, but he does seem to have a genuine hatred for the American film industry... and with the crappy entertainment that we're usually stuck with, I can respect that. I think Boll is right about it being a tyrannical system where independent film-making as a business is virtually impossible now. Even though our film industry is extremely capitalist, it might as well be communism. Still, I'm not quite sure what Boll has against Michael Bay... I haven't seen all of Bay's movies, but I really enjoyed The Rock and Bad Boys.

And I've noticed that most game-to-movie adaptations suck anyway... so do game-to-novel adaptations.

Alone in the Dark is one of the pioneers in the survival horror genre, and in my opinion the AITD games are even better than Resident Evil. I've never played the first Postal game, but Postal 2 was great fun for a couple of hours.
