I've only bought one game for my new Wii so far, and that's Metroid Prime 3: Corruption, which fits your requirement for an action-based, shooty kind of game.

Also, the Wii version of Resident Evil 4 ought to satisfy your gun-based demands.

Neither of these games will be completed in a day, I can guarantee it.

recommendations:

no more heroes - think of the scene in kill bill with the crazy 88's...now turn that into a game and make your weapon a "beam katana" (aka light sabre). add in really unique bosses, gamer humor, and a game that is actually targeted for adult audiences and you have the best third party wii game at the moment.

super paper mario - it's a really weird hybrid of platformer and RPG and of course the quirky paper mario humor)

i know okami is going to be coming out for the wii later this year and i'd expect no less than great things from it.

i've heard bully: scholarship edition was good too.

I'm not big into the new Wii games themselves but Wii Sports is kind of fun, Super Smash Bros Brawl is great probably the best game on the Wii, Carnival Games can be cute and of course Super Mario Galaxy I think that's what it is called.

The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess .... i love that game.

This isn't in the category that you mentioned, but I also like Guitar Hero III. People kept bugging me to get it until I broke down and bought it. I actually enjoy it and I'm looking forward to the release of Guitar Hero: Aerosmith.

i can't think of any good FPS's for the Wii but the lightgun shooters House Of The Dead 2 and 3 return and Ghost Squad might be good bets, but i'd also say to try out Super Mario Galaxy

I suggest you check out Fire Emblem: Radiant Dawn. It's a strategy-RPG and very fun. But it's hard. Although there is an easy mode which is supposed to be very easy, though I haven't tried it yet.

Are you familiar with HomeStar Runner? Their site actually has games that works on the Wii. Use the Wii internet brower and go to www.homestarrunner.com and go to games. They are actually pretty fun.

Personally I hated Metroid Prime 3. I thought it was way too hard, and it's not a real Metroid game-they've moved away from trying to do Metroid-style gameplay like the first one did. Of course many people like it, but I'd recommend renting first.

Personally the only Wii game I've liked so far is Super Mario Galaxy. It's the first 3D Mario game that IMO actually deserves the Mario name. Still not up to par with Super Mario Bros. 3, World, or New, but it's actually really good, and would take longer than a day to beat.

It's also the first (only?) Wii game that actually impresses me graphically. Other than that, if I didn't know better I'd think the Wii was less powerful than the Gamecube, because so few games seem to be doing even as much as the better Gamecube games did even though it's basically 50% more powerful.

And yeah, Resident Evil 4 is awesome too, if you don't already own it for the Playstation 2 or Gamecube (I haven't played the Wii version, but assume it's very strong too).

I guess those would be my two recommendations. Fire Emblem on the Gamecube was one of my favorite strategy/RPGs, but I'm not sure how the Wii one will stack up, as reviews have been very mixed. I thought the first Gameboy Advance game was way too hard, and from many reviews I've heard the Wii one is too hard also.

You can pick up Gamecube games too, if you pick up a controller and memory card. There are a lot more great Gamecube games to date IMO (check out the Gamecube thread on here to get some ideas). Problem would be actually finding the games at this point.

Get Wii Play. It comes with another controller, and it's a game. It's a very good deal.

well, except Wii Play isn't really worth the $10.

Of the games not mentioned yet, Geometry Wars is fantastic. Super Paper Mario is okay but not half as good as Thousand Year Door was - this time it's also way too easy, even for a Paper Mario game.

I actually thought it was much harder, or at least more frustrating. Geometry Wars is no good unless you like Robotron clones.

Forget Robotron clones. It's a Black Widow clone.

How is Super Paper Mario hard at all? It took me half the time that Thousand Year Door did - I never lost a single boss battle. Thousand Year Door wasn't even all that hard, it just had timekiller side quests that made it take a while. In SPM, every single time you can't see where to go, just flip into 3D mode and the path is right there.

I got stuck constantly in it and it just felt like work to me. Gave up half way through. I've liked each Paper Mario game less than the previous one.
