The Grand Theft Auto series may be considered "outstanding" to many, but if there's one true flaw with the franchise that everyone can agree on, it's that not everyone is able to play it thanks to its "bad guy" image. It's especially troublesome to me because even though I am now 18, I am still not allowed by my ever-caring mom to play these games, which angers me a little.
That's why I'm grateful that developers tend to create games that use the same formula as GTA. Some might consider these games "copycats", but considering that quite a few of these games have you playing a good guy, it works out for me very well. Plus, some of these games can get very good reviews.
What would you say is the best "GTA clone", sandbox game, or GTA-like game that is family-friendly or has you playing as a good guy?
For me, I'd have to pick Jak 3 and Sly 2: Band of Thieves (Yes, the latter game does have you playing as thieves, but I think the fact that it's rated E for Everyone completely loopholes the argument.).

While its a M rated game, True Crime: Streets of L.A. has you playing as a cop. It was pretty good.

The Jak and Daxter games and the Ratchet and Clank games are perhaps the best. I also love the Sly Cooper games, he's kind of like a Robin Hood really, not a real bad guy. I don't see these games as GTA clones at all though.

Hulk: Ultimate Destruction and Ultimate Spider-Man or Spider-Man 2 are other games that are fun to play, that are like sandbox games.

Crackdown on the 360 is an excellent game. In it you are a super-cop in a dystopian future where crime is out of control. You have 5 skills to train and level up. Agility which lets you jump very, very high, Driving, Firearms, Explosives and Strength. When you are fully powered you can jump over buildings and pick up cars.

I had some high hopes for spiderman 3 game but it was not as good as I expected. Spiderman 2 had some good humor with the voiceover guy, did you know that he is the door man in the theater in the 2nd movie and the french restraunt guy in the 3rd.

You forgot the most important part.

He is Bruce Campbell, known for playing Ash in the Evil Dead trilogy, and one of the reasons that the Spider-Man flicks were good.

My character in Rock Band at my friends' house looks just like a mix between me and him

My favorite Bruce cameo is in Darkman =D

Why do you still let your mom control what games you can play if you're 18?

At first I was thinking the same thing, but it's not always that simple. I'm eighteen and my mom still has a lot of control over me. As long as I'm living under my parents roof I have to abide by their rules, if I don't they can make my life a living hell, not to mention kick me out if I piss them off too much. So, since I have nowhere else to go, I'm pretty much stuck doing what my parents tell me to for now. I think this is the case for a lot of eighteen year olds, as many of my friends who are eighteen still have rules and times they have to be home by etc. Luckily, my parents could care less about what I watch or what types of games I play, as long as I don't watch or play anything inappropriate while my little brother is around.

i don't think you'll really be able to get a GTA clone without it being rated M.

or do you just mean a sandbox game?
