I've beaten Baten Kaitos. Not Origins though.
...First, I highly advise that you not ask for story detail.
The game has a good deal of suspense value if you don't know anything in advance. The story is something the developers apparently focused on, so you spend a lot of time reading the story. As a result, if you lose the emotional impact of waiting for more plot detail, the game will come out as pretty boring.
What kind of help are you asking for? With the fighting?
Using Sacred Wine and Holy Grail (Not sure about this name, but it's something like it) in the same turn will give you another Sacred Wine card. Since that card restores a dead character back to life with a decent amount of HP, it's pretty useful.
Notice elemental weaknesses of the enemies, especially the bosses, and exploit them. Do not let your own elemental attacks contradict each other.
Many of the bosses are quite difficult. Just warning you of that.

Probably. That's the thing I hate about most RPG's, unless you use cheats, you need to grind(Kill over and over and over ad infinity) for experience and items. Which is time consuming and very boring.

My brother plays the game. I've never played it. Apparently he missed an important item for one of his characters and was thinking of starting over again to find it. Crazy stuff.

Fadroh is a game of chance.
Keep fighting him and losing until he doesn't power himself up within the first few turns.
For the boss that takes place right after Fadroh, equip your characters with high resistence to paralysis.

To your question, yes and no.
Enemies drop specific cards. If you find a card you want more of, remember which enemy dropped that card, and grind that enemy exclusively.

Well in this game the magnus system (card system) is hit or miss. You either make a good deck and don't die or you make a crappy one get your rear beat into the ground and the world dies.

I played through this game and did not care for it much. The story has some really good turns though.
I wouldn't advise trying to make a "killer deck". I spent a lot of time making healing cards that also boost stats but they eventually rotted and were useless. Not that they rotted quickly, but it was too fast for the effort it takes to make them.
One card you might want to make is the stalker letter. It has a 60% instant kill rate so it will speed up battles.

I considered getting the second game if I heard it was better, but it would have to be a lot better.
