Actually, I think they want people to buy BOTH of them. By making some games only compatible with PS2, and others only compatible with PS3, that means more people will be encouraged to buy both consoles. So I guess there is "method" in their madness after all. At least that's the most "logical" explanation my cybernetic brain can come up with...

until you compare the production cost with the selling price

600$ to produce each one even now

so while you buy one for 150$ just remember it cost 600$ to make, they depend on game sells in order to make back the profit and for surplus

The PS3 rocks! Blu-rays are awwessomme.
We have all the new consoles at my house and we definately use the PS3 the most.

I agree that the backwards compatability thing sucks, though.

Good thing I still have my PS2 that plays all the old games ;)

This is why I've never owned a console. PC is where its at.

Massive online games, incredible flexibility (work tool / study / home theatre / gaming rig / internet / etc)... no console will ever offer that without becoming an actual computer system.

Backward compatibility? OS based. Solution: multiple OS boots. Dual Hard Drives that can be manually switched. In my PC I have my primary HDD with win2000 and winxppro64 to play all games from 2000-2008+ and my 'old' hard drive with DOS and Win98 to run games older than 2000.

New games coming out? Upgrade ram/vid card/motherboard ... usually one at a time every 3 to 4 years. Extremely cheap to do when compared to buying a whole new console (what was the PS3? $400? +$ extra controller? +$ memory card? hahaha)

...and you can find a lot of console games ported to the PC anyways.

My ps3 is a blu-ray player. I can't even remember the last time we bought a game for it.

And Dantac, consoles offer a different feel for games for me personally. I like a lot of PC games and I like being able to constantly upgrade, but when I'm playing a single player game I generally greatly prefer for it to be on a console. The controls are natively made to work on a simple controller. Using a keyboard/mouse is annoying and the little controllers for PCs aren't really in the designer's list of considerations. It's also nice to have HD video output for playing a game. Yes I realize there are video cards for PCs that can do the same but the same quality video card for playing on a 42" HDTV is a little out of my price range.

Let's not forget computer mishaps that don't generally happen on a console. I've never lost saved games on a console, but can't count the number of times I've either had to wipe my PC due to a problem or inadvertently deleted a saved game I wanted later when trying to make more space on my hard drive. And don't get me started on viruses, keyloggers, etc.

PC games are being ported back, and thats a lot of opening up, installing, rewiring and shopping just to play a game. Its a lot more work than "turn on, insert, load, play"

All 3 consoles are pretty flawed this generation. Sony with its price and lousy library. 360 with its terrible reliability issues. The Wii with its over-reliance on casuals and last-gen processing power.

In all honesty they all deserve to fail. Though I'm pleased with Nintendo's success.

You can blow up the American counterparts, but you must of forgot about the Nintendo of everywhere else, and Sony anywhere. Word has it that Sega is heading back into the market, so I say we dash off Microsoft, and let the three fight it out. Besides, you have forgotten, the portable console gaming market is a smash for both Sony and Nintendo, Microsoft has yet to test the waters with something, and probably a failure of something, seeing how their consoles are doing.
Don't mind, I was just putting in two cents, and moving onward.

technicly we could put microsoft in and nintendo out because per consoles sold the Wii has out sold evrything...
