I think I'll dig out the old CD roms and play Monkey Island again. Funniest PC games I ever played.

Hell yeah!! ! Monkey Island is one of the best video game series ever. I do miss those old LucasArts graphic adventures, and wish that more people made games like those these days....

It seems like Monkey Island and the older LucasArts games were made more because the makers wanted to have fun. Now the games are so different, all trying to make lots of money and losing the spontanaeous fun of the older games.

Monkey Island was amazing! Fun gameplay, a good plot, beautiful graphics, and hilarious wit in great abundance, what's not to like?

I haven't actually played much Monkey Island despite having the first 4 games on PC at home. I have a CD with the first 2 on them as well as 3 and 4 on different discs.

Try Nelly Cootalot (free) or Return to Mysterious Island (not free, and more of a serious point+click that makes you think)

Oh yeah those Monkey islands were fun.

I actually preferred the humour of the Sierra titles but Monkey Island was less frustrating because you didn't get killed all the time. (Space Quest was pretty funny too but you kept dying).

My funniest PC game moment ever is in Space Quest 6 when you're in the bar and have to cause a distraction. Forgotten exactly what it was but you end up with giant sea-monkeys everywhere. I must have laughed for a good 10 minutes when that happened.

I liked Day of the Tentacle most.

You get to blow out George Washington's wooden false teeth with an exploding cigar, and then you hand him a pair of wind up chattering teeth to replace them.

The Edward van Helgen banjo duel is classic though.

Grim Fandango was classic, too.

I'm getting Sam & Max: Season 1 for Christmas. I hope I like that.

Wow someone else likes Monkey Island! I love it, along with all the other LucasArt classic adventure games. Adventure games are one of my obsessions. :D

I loved Escape from Monkey Island 4 which I played on PS2 a few years ago. Visually stimulating, interesting plot line, hilarious dialogue! I want to get this game for the PC as well.

I loved all of the monkey island games, I think I bought them all in a 4-pack and played them out of order :)

I managed to finish all of them except for the very last puzzle of the 4th game, where you had to defeat the guy with some kind of random combination. I lost patience and gave up there :( But it was mega fun up until that point :)

If you loved that one, you should definitely play the first three games, as the fourth is easily the least-best of the series (and a lot of the inside jokes will make sense).

those were some of my fave games. A couple years ago, I had a program installed called SCUMM VM, which stands for Script Creation Utility for Maniac Mansion Virtual Machine.
I also found a website that had zipped copies of the old games( the website is down now, sadly). SCUMM VM is an emulator for the old SCUMM VM games, which include loom, Monkey Island one two and three, Beneath a Steel Sky, Sam and Max, etc. Try downloading the program and see if you can find the files to the old games( ifyou have the old CDs, that WILL work). It basically allows you to play all those old games on new hardware.

Here is a partial list of games that ran on the SCUMM engine

Monkey Island 123
Indiana Jones and the fate of Atlantis
Zak McKracken and the Alien Mindbenders
The Dig( great game)
Beneath a Steel Sky
Loom
Sam and Max hit the road
Maniac Mansion 2 Day of the Tentacle
Maniac Mansion 1
Legend of Kyrandia
Full Throttle( one of my faves) it was about biker gangs and a murder mystery
