Does anyone own a PSP and a DS? I have a DS and have wondered if its worth the price to get a PSP. Yeah I know you can watch movies on it, but I rarely ever travel where I would not have a tv available. I haven't heard of many PSP games, the ones I have seen don't even make me want them.

How do others feel about the two portables?

Just stick with the DS. I don't have a PSP, but Playstation in general sucks in comparison with Nintendo. I don't know anyone who likes PSP better than Nintendo DS. If there aren't any games you want on it, there's really no point in spending money for it. Save your money for the DSi when it comes out if you want a new system.

I have both and they each have their pluses.

When I want Tetris DS or Planet Puzzle League, it's the DS

When I want Deadhead Fred, 300, GTA, or God Of War.
Or if I want to watch a video, or browse the internet, or listen to internet radio, check e-mail, use my SKYPE account, or show pictures off to other people...

If you like puzzle games, and simple action games and Mario, stick with the DS.

If you want more, and better quality games, the PSP cannot be beat!!

Sony these days reminds me of Neo-Geo. Back in the day they released the Neo-Geo AES to compete with the Super Nintendo, Sega Genesis & Atari Jaguar. It essentially was the same hardware as the MVS arcade system, aside from a sligthly different cartridge pinout so they could have a stronger threshold on marketing. Obviously the AES was MUCH more powerful than the competing systems, with accompanying much higher pricetag. If you want to know who won the console wars, think of early-mid 90's gaming & think of the first 2 names that come to mind.

The same can be applied to portable systems. DS = Gameboy & PSP = Atari Lynx or Sega GameGear.

Aww, I miss the Game Gear. :[ I grew up on the Game Gear in my earlier childhood (5 years old - 7 years old). I didn't get a Game Boy until the Pokemon era ( around 8 years old - 11 years old) The Game Gear was friggin awesome.

Remember that it's the SOFTWARE that sells the hardware.

Research out the games and all of the stuff that you want to do, and go from there.

Both Nintendo & Sony are in it for the long haul, so you so yo can't really bad decision.

The DS plays good games, the PSP plays great games and does so much more!

All of my friends who have PSPs just use them to listen to MP3s...

Of course, with a flash cart, I could do that with my DS, but I don't bother since I've got a pretty decent MP3 player.

I might point out you can surf the Internet on the DS too. You have to buy a browser cartridge which is about $32 to do it and have a Wi-Fi connection or piggyback off someone elses but its doable.

Does anyone know if Wi-Fi is free in the US airports?

The included microbrowser in the PSP is more useful than the optional one for the DS. But they are both better than nothing.

In most US airports, they have free wifi, but keep in mind that you will not be able to sign into a subscription hotspot (like T-Mobile does) with a DS, it won't do secure network connections. And the SKYPE phone feature on the PSP is VERY cool.

If mobile browsing is going to be that important to you, stick with the PSP, or check out the iPod Touch, it's the best mobile browser of all!!

The PSP Eats the DS alive.. I have both, the DS's graphics are terrible, the touch screen isn't exactly the most amazing thing I've ever seen, and when playing most games, due to developers wanting to use the most of the avaliable software, they actually make the games worse, instead of better...

Although it all depends on what games you play, if you want a PSP, buy one, check out some of the good games you can get, and think about whether any of them are ever worth buying...

The last time Nintendo had a better system than a Sony system, well, that has never happened. Playstation had better games than Nintendo 64, PS2 had better games than Gamecube and PS3 has much better games than Wii. DS and PSP both have good games, but in general, I like PSP games better. I have both and in general, I like the PSP a lot more. With games like God of War: Chains of Olympus, Metal Gear Solid: Portable Ops, Tekken 5: Dark Resurrection, etc, it just has more games I like.

It depends on your taste really. In my opinion the Wii is much better than PS3 and DS is much better than PSP. But, I will agree that the Playstation beat the N64 and the PS2 beat the Gamecube as far as games go.

it is worth the price to get a PSP [am have had one since launch] but it really depends on what are after.
the PSP is a multi media console which lacks a bit in gaming, but offers a lot of features, such as playstation network-can buy games over the psp and download free demos,as long as have got a wireless router.
the internet [it doesn't work well on the psp,big sites like wp can cause memory errors, and sites like gmail wont work on it], great internet radio using a shoutcast player......its got the obvious ones that know already [music/videos/photos].

the psps gaming side is weak because there are so many ports from the playstation, rather than a good back catelogue of dedicated new series like the ds.
but the ds doesnt have the same level of features [at least with using sisters it doesnt] ,and
is a nintendo console-who avoid aiming their brand at a specific age group, and instead keep it family friendly [meaning anyone can play them, not just children or adults],so whilst they do have some age specific games on both sides of the age spectrum, not everyone may like the overall style of the games on the ds,guess the same goes for the psp.

the ds has some great looking games out in Japan,so would recommend having a look at play-asia.com to see what think [make sure the games have english text if are ever going to buy any,as the ds is territory free or whatever its called]./
even though its partly territory free, sony banned importing of their games and consoles [at least in europe they did,not sure about us] so cannot get hold of the better jap games.

I own both portable consoles (I share the DS with my siblings). Every console has pros and cons. It all depends of the features you're interested in.

Multimedia:
PSP is a multimedia device: you can have games, music, videos, photos and more in one device. I'm not really interested in watching movies on my PSP, but I use it for listening to music while I walk.
If you want a multimedia portable console without buying a PSP, then get a flash cart for your DS.

About games:
DS has more game titles than PSP. Most DS games are created for everyone with simple graphics, while most PSP games are focused to mature gamers and have better graphics.
Which console has the best games? I don't know. If I wanna play Pokémon or Mario games, I take my DS. . . and when I'm fed up I play Burnout or Metal Gear games on my PSP.
If you are interested in PSP exclusive game titles, I really reccomend buying a PSP.

Wi-Fi connection / Internet services:
I found the NDS Wi-Fi connection very crappy. When I bought my wireless router I had some problems with my wireless network security and NDS compatibility.
I haven't had problems with the PSP Wi-Fi, and games like Metal Gear Solid Portable OPS Plus work great
Both Internet browsers had some issues, but they are better than nothing.

I would have to say the same thing, but I haven't tried the new homebrew browser for DS yet...DS Organizer's web browser doesn't work on my flash cart =/
