I didn't get very far in it...maybe I just had the battle settings on "easy" before, but to me it seemed a lot harder than the first game :x

I'm thinking I might have to reinstall it again soon and see if I can do a little better.

I'm weird though, I liked Wasteland better than Fallout

i havent tried wasteland, but its the first in the series tho, so i can relate to that

the only reason i am not as enthusiastic about fallout(1) is that it has a definite ending. thats about it. its a pity.. :(

ive completed fallout 2, without exaggerating, probably 15 times, its something i "have" to do, every now and then :D and each time, i find something new, and something that totally cracks me up

Kind of...it's less Roguelike than Diablo is, has more in common with turn-based strategy games and traditional American RPGs.

Totally agree with the OP. It's up there with System Shock 2 as one of my favorite games ever.

I liked Fallout 3 well enough, but I miss the grid-based system of movement and combat. I always liked that subtle strategy component to the Fallout games, and now that it's been replaced with a first-person perspective, it feels a lot more like an Elder Scrolls game.

And let's be honest, standing close to a Brahmin and splattering it all over the place with your minigun is instant win. It's just not quite the same anymore.

thats because they've made it into an elder scrolls game but i suppose thats why its good not as good as oblivion though

diablo is a run-and-kill-everything-that-even-remotely-looks-killable game, it exhausted me after ten seconds play :(

but it has a similar view, yes, you move the character around by clicking, and at objects, but its a lot more... intelligent, so to speak :D

Different game by different companies.
Different locations (1 and 2 = west coast / 3 = east coast)
Different cultures (the afore mentioned... 1 and 2 = west coast / 3 = east coast)

As far as I'm concern both are fun.

I still need to figure out how to get the Van Buren demo (alpha? beta? whatever it is) to run =/ Surely by now someone has figured it out...on my card, the ground is rendered all black, so it's not very playable.

i never tried it, but i dont think theres a lot you can hope for.
what i understood is that there is only one demo, and its virtually unplayable. if thats the one you got, its probably as good as it gets.

instead, go to the no mutants allowed forums (wont link. rules :( google it ) and look for the "fallout 2 restoration project"

it seeks to fill out all the plot-holes in fallout 2, and add all elements removed from the game, such as the science base, sulik's village and his sister (which was supposed to be an easy and early mission) and so on. its RIDICULOUSLY bugged, so i deleted it, and im giving the modders some time to polish it a bit more.

I know there's not much there, but I'd at least like to enjoy what little got finished =/

I tried some other mod for Fallout (1) and I had the same problem...too buggy...I think half of the features it mentioned wouldn't even work.

well, the restoration project mod works, i managed to finish all the quests BUT

not without some amazing un-freeze trick, cus the game would freeze-up when entering cities, cus of the mod.
the un-freeze trick is tedious and long lasting, so you need some dedication for it :(
(you gotta go to the save slot folder, and replace the map, that your stuck on, with a base map, from an unplayed game. meaning, if you got a car or npc there, theyre lost forever.)

in the science base (that myron often mentions in the original game) the game would freeze for each level you went to, simply by exiting an elevator. VERY annoying.

it often came down to the too-many-items bug, in my un-modded game, the bug manifests in the skilldex button going black. i can live with that, cus the skills are listed on the number keys on the keyboard. but in the modded version, it manifests in freeze-up's of the game, which is a pity.
you can always leave behind lots of ammo and stuff, but later on in the game, there are so many unique items, that you'd like to keep, youll surpass the item limit easily...

same here, FO3 and oblivion

i totally fell in love w "shivering isles", the oblivion expansion

im usually not into "wizards and potions and crap" (to quote fallout ;) ) but for some reason i still like morrowind and oblivion. ran into morrowind totally by accident so to speak. had it laying around in my house, original cd and everything, for a year without being interested
