Otherwise you end up with what we have now, where the few intelligent people have to pay the price for hundreds of thousands of shaved apes making stupid, illogical, ***wilfully** ignorant decisions based on hate and fear. Of coarse the stupid ones also pay for their own decisions, but the intelligent people should not have to take the consequences of bad decisions that some redneck theocrats or some delusional hippies make.

That's irrelevant though. There are plenty of pedophiles that are of any sexual orientation. The main issue here is revolving around the whether or not someone's rights should be denied simply because some other person wants it so or feels that someone is inferior for being different.

Of course, opinions are opinions, but should we base our policies or laws on our opinions (which are often misguided)?

actually a vast majority of pedophiles are heterosexual normally...even in cases of molesting small boys. it's normally more of a psychological thing than a sexual thing...basically the sex, though it's the obviously heinous central act, is incidental to the psychological dominance in most cases.

and i'm not saying people can't express their opinions but their opinions, when it affects the rights of others, should be kept as just opinions....not legislation or political issues...especially when there's scientific data to disprove the "opinion" of denying rights to gays with regards to child care.

Point is, for man to ever evolve to a state where we may some day achieve a state of universal brother/sisterhood, peace, equality, prosperity, we must come to a common understanding of where the facts lie (this is something humans do not dictate). Misinformation will sabotage society..... Freedom is only as free as it's boundaries within responsibility, otherwise freedom will turn upside town and become tyranny, poverty, and famish.

I agree.

some people here need to see that the roman catholic church is NOT what Jesus intended. Jesus and the bible WERE and ARE abused by the roman catholic church institute to gain the power and money they crave (power corrupts, and absolute power corrupts absolute), but don't shoot me immediately, i believe there are also many people in the system with good intentions, not knowing of the intentions of their leaders. If we believe the bible we are living in the last days (the signs for the last days are fulfilled), and when we have a closer look to the human population as a species on earth, we can only conclude that we abuse the earth, i don't think god intended this when he gave humankind dominion over all species (genesis i think). Now everybody will try to convince me that our planet is doing fine, well i can tell you the earth is NOT doing fine. Humankind has developed science to USE the planet, nobody intends to destroy the planet but the combined action of the immense population with its immense destructive power we possess shall ultimately lead to the collapse of our ecosystem and/or society. Imagine that you were god and created the earth with all its species, will you see a peaceful planet or a planet infected with a parasite (and yes we ARE a parasite, for definition: link) destroying all other life powered by roaring machines fueled with crude oil?
And for the people that spit on the bible let's see it this way: the bible states that you should follow the commandments. Pose hypothetically that everyone on earth follows these commandments, there would be no need for locking your car or house or whatever, there would be no killing, raping, stealing, jealousy... . Isn't this what every peaceful mind wants? So why than despise you the bible? To not feeling bad for your perverted actions? The bible doesn't call for crusades in other countries, converting every other soul as part of your religious duty, no call for an inquisition, there is also no call for buying off a place in heaven or that your priests or even popes can forgive your sins by donating money... . If you want to know about god, read the bible. What does the existentialists preach (link), they state that "the absence of a transcendent force (God) means that the individual is entirely free", id est: how perverted or bad your actions are, it doesn't matter, you are free to do what you want, nobody will judge you, but of course by "bad" actions you hurt and abuse others, even if there is no god watching. Would this be the basis of a stable peaceful society? I personally don't think so.
Anyway, i pray for a sign of god to show his existence to me.

It is not science that is the problem, just as you can't blame math or logic for it either, but that it is how you use science that is important. As with any kind of "power" there is nothing inherently wrong with it except the person using it. Don't think scientists aren't aware of overpopulation or the power of destructive weapons or pollution; in fact, you couldn't be aware of these problems without science, which is why scientists are investing more time in trying to solve these problems and find methods of technology that achieve what we do now that harms the planet less.

I know for sure that I am not God, at least not the Christian one described in the bible because I do not have OCPD, and if I could create my own world, I would at least be well aware that any world I create could go wrong. I could create a planet I intend to be peaceful, but know that it might not end that way. However, that doesn't mean that God's suddenly going to come down and destroy the planet. I could perceive him doing that in the bible because of his bad temperament, but there is simply no evidence that leads to that happening. We'll either end up destroying ourselves because of some idiots in power, and humanity once again bites itself in the ass, or the sun will run out of energy, and we'll have no place to go if technology doesn't get that far. In other words, we don't need a God given intervention to destroy ourselves; it will happen, and it's not because the bible said so.

Why don't you take a closer look at the commandments (both sets of them) and see that most of them all have to do with worshipping God and nothing much else, really? So now, I can go and steal someone's car or their stuff in their house, rape all I want, kill, steal or be as jealous as I please. Then on Sunday, I go and confess my sins, and I'm still going to heaven. Is that what you mean?

Maybe, maybe not, but there is plenty of war and suffering and "crusading" going on in the bible anyways, and if there somehow weren't missionaries, that also doesn't explain why non believers and "false-worshippers" get tortured or shunned. Furthermore, there is no one definition of "bad" that we can all agree on, and such a statement about existentialism is a serious generalization, since all I think it means is that people can think for themselves and decide what is really good or bad--I can point to the Christian God and list several things wrong with him. To let the Christian God decide what is good or bad for me is simply too boring and doesn't put my brain to good use at all. I would rather use my brain and have a few people misunderstand my intentions, even if I'm not hurting others or interfering with their lives than to let someone else do all the thinking for me and have fear of being judged and watched every moment of my life.

I say this because the focus of any society SHOULD be to progress, to make life better for everyone, and it's kind of hard to progress when so many people are following lies. They'll go to insane means to protect that lie from again being proven a lie (no matter how many times it has previously been proven), and they may even resort to taking away or trampling other peoples' rights to those ends. If society can not deal with facts we can not progress, people will continue this history-old cycle of oppressing one another. If one person refuses to deal with a proven fact, that person will hold the rest of society back. If something is a proven and known fact, there should be no right to deny that fact.

It's bloody hard to progress when you aren't allowed to say something that might offend someone. So who establishes what is fact in their almighty wisdom, you? It wasn't long ago that a guy challenged what was thought to be fact by a lot of people, and he wasn't treated all that fairly by todays standards. By your reasoning it was right for the Church to condem Galileo because he proposed something that was "not a proven fact". You can't tell me that Science should always be believed, it's made it's own share of mistakes like encouraging racial Eugenics. In fact a lot of things held widley to be true today used to be believed by just one or two people who were called "Nuts" or "Heretic" by everyone including Scientists.

I agree completely. Silencing free speech is counter to social progress.

Take, for example, someone who says that group X is generally less X characteristic, and more of X characteristic. It differentiates between X and Y groups, and may potentially offend, but it might just have some truth to it.

What are we going to do next, silence conspiracy theorists who are likely telling the truth?

All arguments against God and religion can be aptly, and humorously, be summorized by quoting George Carlin (not exact quotes here):

"People believe in angels? sh**! Where the f*** are all the zombies??

"It's all part of God's plan. If you pray for something you want, you f*** up the plan. What good is being God anyway if any nut with a prayer book can along and f*** up your plan?"

"I pray to the sun. It provides me with everything I need ... and I don't have to go setting people on fire just because they don't agree with me!

"Look at the world we live in. This is not the work of a supreme being, it the kind of s*** you'd expect from an office temp with a bad attitude."

It makes no difference whether you believe or don't. Life will still go on and the Earth will still be here 10,000,000,000 years from now (unless those idiots in the Whitehouse push the button). You barrack for Jehovah, I barrack for Pagan gods; doesn't mean that we need them to survive.

BTW, did you hear they might have found the missing link that proves evolution somewhere in Kenya? Seems it was a 10,000,000 y.o jawbone.......
