Well, a god that had revealed himself through an idiotic book and would damn people for non-belief or believing in another idiotic book would be evil. Belief isn't a choice. Any god deserving the title would make obvious to anyone and everyone he was real and make his rules clear to all too. Since what religion a person is depends almost completely on where he or she is born that isn't the case. I can't say for sure there is no god at all, but I am actually more sure that the Judeo-Christian-Islamic god does not exist than I am sure that I do exist. Even the Flying Spaghetti Monster makes more logical sense than that monster.

I take it, then, that you have read the Torah, Bible, and Qu'ran in their entirety? Or are you relying on "common knowledge"?

Once again: As you are referring to the idea of (edit)heaven and hell(/edit) here, you must then be referring to Ahura Mazda (not YHWH).

And again, I'd have to point out the fact that you're discarding religion altogether based on what you think being Judeo-Christian means, which is completely illogical. Why have you not tried to see if Shintoism deserves to be discarded? Why have you not studied Hinduism, Buddhism, Confucianism, Taoism, Deism, Humanism, or any of the multitude of other religions out there? For that matter, why have you not studied Judeo-Christian religions, since you quite clearly do not have an understanding of them? Unless you have truly studied religion, you cannot argue religion, either for or against it.

Never ead the Torah, but I actually have read both the BuyBull and The Qaran completely. By the way I know a few atheists who were Christians UNTIL they read the entire Bible.

Humanism isn't a religion, BTW. It's a Philosophy and I accept it.

I know at least one very prominent atheist who recently became a theist: Antony Flew

From what I can tell (having seen an interview with him) he's definitely not senile.

He also ripped apart quite eloquently the philosophical argument Dawkins made in the God delusion. (duh... Flew is a professional philosopher, Dawkins is only a zoologist).

No, I think that our minds are part of this observable reality and very much inter-dependent upon this observable reality.

Er, I'm gonna let you in on a secret. Our minds are pretty crazy. Sometimes they tell us things that just ain't right. That's how optical illusions work. Our minds tell us one story, though it's not necessarily right. That's what it means by the external world being independant of our minds.

I have serious doubts that there is such a thing as a Theory of Everything.

There isn't right now. Maybe there will, or maybe we will come to the point where we can't continue.

Anyway, it's a better attempt to explain things than 'Goddidit'.

No, it does not?

But maybe it's implemented using lazy evaluation? This would explain a lot of observable quantum weirdness.

Could you elaborate on this?

I believe in a power out there, and I do call it God. But I am an openly spiritual person. I don't follow any particular denomination.

Mathematics is not about the world. It is abstract. The only requirement in mathematics is internal logical consistency.

You may search the physical world from one end to the other and you will find pairs, but you will never find the number two. Numbers exist as abstractions in our heads.

So nice that you've read two holy books out of over a dozen religions (not to mention the various different sects of said religions) that are not even close to representative of religion as a whole. I take it you also studied the audience that those various texts were meant for?

Humanism is a philosophical movement, but it is also practiced as a religion by some.

Now, keep in mind that I do have respect for athiests who have actually studied religion, not to mention the failings of athiesm to explain many things (such as the possibility of life and the Axial Period).

You aren't athiest, you're just anti-Christian. Even then, your understanding isn't quite as good as it should be. For example: Why is Satan mentioned in Chronicles when it refers to David's census, but in 2 Samuel it says the anger of God? Did you ask yourself this as you read the Bible? Have you studied the religious texts that exist outside of the Torah, Bible, and Qu'ran?

Go and study religion, and then you can come and debate that your religion is the greatest of them all, and is the "right" one.

I change my mind.

I think I'm going to become like one of those gnostics searching for personal spirituality in life.

Whatever that means..... :?

I don't have a religion. I mainly focus on Christianity because it is the predominant religion where I live and the one that tries to turn it's views into my laws. Obviously nobody has the time to study every religion ever invented.

You should at least study the major ones (and I mean really study them, reading the holy texts alone isn't enough) before trying to claim that you know enough about religion to argue it.

And yes, you do have a religion. It's called anti-Christianity.

Hey, if you tell the Emperor he's naked, he'll tell you you haven't even read Contemporary Royal Fashion and Etiquette for Emperors so you can't really point that out. And if you've read it, you've obviously read it wrong since you're still pointing out he's naked. All while his genitals are flopping about.

Interestingly, some people is of the opinion that the Emperor is dressed, even though they haven't read any of his books.
